1. Doug Marrone played tackle for the Syracuse Orangemen from 1983-1985. He played under head coach Dick MacPherson, who left Syracuse in 1990 to coach the Patriots.
2. Doug Marrone was taken in the sixth round of the 1986 draft by the Los Angeles Raiders.
3. He later went on to play for the Dolphins and the Saints before being sent to the NFL Europe to play for the London Monarchs.
4. In 1991 Marrone won a World Bowl Championship as a member of that team.
5. After two seasons in Europe Marrone returned to the states to coach. He got his first job at Cortland State as a TE coach.
6. Marrone bounced around the college ranks coaching both TE’s and OL until 2002 when he was hired by Herm Edwards to coach the Jets offensive line. The Offensive Coordinator of that team was Paul Hackett.
7. On 1/30/2006, Marrone was hired as the Offensive Coordinator of the New Orleans Saints. Just 42 days later the Saints agreed to terms with free agent QB Drew Brees.
8. Marrone was hired by Syracuse on 12/11/2008. After a difficult first season with only 4 wins, the Orange improved in 2010 finishing the season with 8 wins and a Pinstripe Bowl victory.
9. During his time at Syracuse Marrone was 3-5 against ranked teams. Two of the three victories came against rivals West Virginia (#19, #11) and their star QB Geno Smith. The other win was against #10 Louisville with stand out LBer Preston Brown.
10. The first player Doug Marrone coached to get drafted was OL Jonas Jennings of Georgia. Taken with the 95th selection in the 2001 draft by the Buffalo Bills.
