In addition to the late-round draft pick surrendered to the Detroit Lions (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=det), the minimum cost of the insurance policy the Miami Dolphins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=mia) essentially purchased by acquiring veteran quarterback Joey Harrington (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5889) via a trade last Friday afternoon will be just under $4 million, ESPN.com has learned.

According to league salary documents obtained by ESPN.com, the Dolphins signed Harrington to a three-year contract after acquiring the four-year veteran and former first-round draft choice. The deal includes a signing bonus of $2.2 million and a 2006 base salary of $800,000, meaning that Harrington will earn $3 million for the coming season.

I guess the players aren't the only one's doing drugs. Do they test the coaches as well?

Maybe Harrington will be able to turn it around.

It's not any worse then us giving that much money to Robert Royal. Either that or our 4th WR on the depth chart like Josh Reed who got that much.

At worse they have a backup QB to Culpepper for around an average of 1.5 million a year. That's about the amount of money that Kelly Holcomb is getting.

I'd rather give that much money to a young crappy QB with some upside like Harrington instead of an old noodle armed proven loser like Kelly Holcomb.

I've always wanted to fail so miserably that someone would pay me $3.75 Million. I guess I'm in the wrong profession.

But Levy Jones was considered a reach at the time....

Something tells me that Culpepper is not as ready as the Dolphins first thought. I wouldn't be surprised if Carson Palmer and Drew Brees are playing before him.

why is everybody thinking that the harrington signing means daunte won´t be ready, as a matter of fact, we needed a BACKUP, cleo lemon was the 2nd qb behind daunte, thats it

Outstanding deal for the Fins. 5.75 million over the first 2 years of the deal is very manageable for a backup when you consider that the cap is now over a 100 million. What really makes me happy is that this deal includes a 3rd year with a poison pill. The deal that we were "reported" to have agreed on was only a 2 year deal worth about 5 million. Since there is now a 3rd year it gives us the chance to trade him and get some return on our investment if he is indeed able to rejuvenate his career.

In a sense he lost about 4-5 million since he originally was due an 8 million dollar bonus from Detroit.

In a sense he lost about 4-5 million since he originally was due an 8 million dollar bonus from Detroit.Actually it was a 4 million dollar bonus to go along with a 4.5 million dollar base salary for a total of 8.5 million. The way this deal is structured he will make 3 million this year but because part of the money is pro rated he will only have a cap hit of $1.53 million, to put it in perspective thats a hit of less then one and a half percent of the overall cap. Very, very manageable for a backup QB.

Its possible but it would really suprise me.

There is great news within the Dolphins camp.
New quarterback Daunte Culpepper appears to be ahead on his rehabilitation and could be ready for the start of training camp. Maybe he won't be ready to get hit, but Culpepper should be ready to participate in most drills. He looks super. That's the word.

[FOX Sports (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5578520)] Wearing a knee brace, QB Daunte Culpepper is running and throwing in the offseason program, and he received a favorable report when examined recently by specialist Dr. James Andrews, head coach Nick Saban said.

“He has already participated in just about everything that we do in our offseason program. His straight-line running is fine. He’s throwing the ball. He’s dropping back. He runs the plays and does the handoffs. He wears a knee brace and he probably does it about ¾ speed, but we’re very pleased with his progress. He went back to Birmingham. Dr. Andrews gave him a, A+ grade in terms of where he was in his rehab. We’re just going to continue to progress with him. We can make no predictions about when he’ll be 100 percent and we certainly won’t put him in a situation that he can’t continue to make progress in based on how much we ask him to do.”

The fact is, Daunte Culpepper is doing nothing short of wonderfully in his continued process to rehab his reconstructed right knee from three torn ligaments last October. Culpepper has been running for a while. He has taken drop-backs and thrown to wide receivers and tight ends. However, now he is performing roll-out passes and starting to do some light cutting.
Culpepper will take part in the Dolphins Organized Team Activities (OTAs) that start Monday. He is not 100 percent yet, but the outlook for him to be ready for training camp and start the season on September 7 looks better and better with each passing day.
Michael Smith, one of the few very credible personalities on ESPN, talked with the Dolphins’ front office and they told him they’d be “shocked” if Daunte isn’t ready for training camp, much less the start of the regular season.
Culpepper recently visited Dr. James Andrews, the world-renown doctor who performed surgery on Culpepper’s knee last year. His latest evaluation fruited an “A+.”

Every report I have read has him ahead of schedule.

But Culpepper said he would be ready to go opening day. How could we doubt his word ? ( sarcasm )

Hmmm..

But Culpepper said he would be ready to go opening day. How could we doubt his word ? ( sarcasm )McGahee also said he was the best running back in the league last year. We all know he was wrong.

As for Culpepper, all reports point to him living up to his word. He may even be ready to participate at the very begining of training camp. :D
