Four short months ago Bobby April's special teams unit was again tops in the NFL. The Bills specialists became the first unit in the history of the league to turn the trick in back-to-back seasons. But at 5-11 the Bills fell far below expectations and there were going to be changes.

Bobby April hoped to stick around, but once head coach Dick Jauron was hired all bets were off.

"It was his prerogative to keep whoever he wanted, but I definitely wanted to stay," said April. "We've got a great situation here and it's a great organization."

April got to stay and more as Jauron handed him the additional title of Assistant head coach.

"My first thought was coach Jauron was being generous and doing something that made a proclamation that my status is elevated in this profession," said April. "That's what it represents to me. But even if I hadn't been given that title I would have been tremendously grateful because I did want to stay."

I'm a firm believer that the coaches are more important than talent. Although I don't know much about how good Jauron is , he and Marv are obviously giving coaches in every unit all the possible help to succeed. They are making sure that everyone helps out each other.

From Tolbert , Eric Studesville to assistant offensive line coach Larry Zierlein helping out with the ST .I know there's always the "too many chef's....." thing but I don't think it's gonna happen in this case. I'm looking forward to our new staff that seems to be paying special attention to detail. Something we haven't had under TD who hired rookie coaches.

I too am very excited to see what happens. Finally we have coach that is not a rookie. I mean he may have had some bad records, but he did bring a bad bears team to the playoffs. The following year after that was not his fault, his whole team got injured. I like the coaching staff he hired. I just hope he can bring us back to the promise land.

Well we have an actual coach commenting on the rookie head coach situation TD brought upon this oranization. I guess those who didn't like Donahoe's first time coaches were on to something.
I don't care what profession you are in, the first time around is a learning experience.

Thats the truth, but when you dont show any progress, or get worse, then thats a reason why its a gamble. It also goes out to the manangement, who dont spend money, to get players that will fit the system. Mediocre players are mediocre for a reason, and that is what TD and his group brought in mainly, or statues.

I have nothing against rookie head coaches. Some of them have done an excellent. Case in point-Marvin Lewis. I also have nothing against retred coaches. Case in pooint-Marv Levy. Hey, It's too bad there were no coaching candidates out there named Marv/Marvin.

Sad thing is, we could of maybe had Lewis.

Huh? Giving every coach in every unit all the possible help to succeed? Did you watch the draft? We drafted a situational / rotational backup with a first round pick. While passing on sure fire starters opposite Tripplet. And don't get me started on the OL.

It wasn't done the TD way where he gets to veto his own staff. So I will take the opinions of the coaches about the players we drafted over yours anyday.

When I say all possible help, we also got McNally an asst., and every other coach helps the other unit.

OL? I'm not going to get started because we all know you were high on the FA's we got for the OL and only changed your mind after you were wrong about the draft.

I am a big fan of Fairchild and Kollar, and I'll reserve judgement on Fewel and especially Jauron.

40% of the our OL was addressed with new starters before the draft via FA. People loved the acquistions at the time.

Am I missing something?

Hell I'm not wrong about the draft at all. Marv went stupid on us, that isn't my fault. The players were right there for the taking and we didn't do it.
