The rookie Ward was yanked by Carolina coach Peter Laviolette after the fourth goal, although he wasn't totally to blame as the Sabres launched 26 shots his way in just over half a game. In fact, the Sabres outshot the Hurricanes 18-9 in a second period that not only decided Game 3 but may have set the tone for the rest of the series as Buffalo showed it would not by physically intimidated by Carolina.

I do not think the goal tender made much of a difference in this game. And it was nice to see the Sabres get aggressive.

Games 2 and 3 were reverses of each other with flipped scores, penalties and a close no goal.
