No-quit Sabres ignite Stanley Cup madness

The Hamilton SpectatorBUFFALO (May 25, 2006) They waved pompoms and waived decorum in a near 18,000-strong salute to their heroes as the Buffalo Sabres skated onto the ice at HSBC Arena last night.
Welcome to Sabreland, where a mostly no-name hockey team is winning hearts and minds on both sides of the border.
The no-quit Sabres are drawing more and more fans to their banner as old supporters dust off faded jerseys and young ones line up to buy new ones.
    Playoffs: SP3, 4
It's a highly irresistible strain of Stanley Cup madness, with waves of support washing down the Niagara Peninsula, too.
The backing is a noisy weapon, driving visiting teams to hotels outside the city for peace and quiet.
The Carolina Hurricanes changed from the downtown Adam's Mark to an airport hotel when they heard about the reception the Philadelphia Flyers received a few weeks back.
Local radio DJs told listeners where the Flyers were staying and a parade of disruptive fans drove through the hotel's circular driveway at all hours, honking their horns.
