Gerber will start for the canes tonight.

Well he played soild in the 3rd period last game. So Carolina won't be concerned with their goaltending. I also think being down 3 defencemen, Carolina is thinking Buffalo won't be playing as wide an open game as they usually do, reducing the amount Gerber is tested. It's a safe play to give Ward a day off and regroup for game 5 in Carolina.

It's a smart move for Carolina. He looked stronger than Ward did and seemed to give Carolina the boost they needed in game 3.

No. Laviolette likes Gerber better than Ward. That isn't any big secret. If Gerber continues to play well, he'll be in net the rest of the way...
