RALEIGH, N.C.(AP) -- The Buffalo Sabres will be without yet another defenseman for tonight's Game Seven against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Veteran Jason McKee, Buffalo's best defensive player, didn't make the trip to Raleigh yesterday due to a seriously infected cut
on his shin.

After the team's morning skate today, Coach Lindy Ruff announced that McKee definitely won't be playing tonight, leaving the Sabres down four regular defensemen.

This team has fought too long and hard for this crap.

If they lose fine, but having such limited defensemen just sucks.

Nathan Paetsch will take McKee's place on the Sabres bench. Paetsch played in Rochester this season. The defensemen for the Sabres will consist of Brian Campbell, Toni Lydman, Rory Fitzpatrick, Doug Janik, Jeff Jilson, and Paetsch for game 7.

To lose 4 of your top 5 defensemen in game 7 of a conference championship may be the straw that broke the camels back. Half of the defense is made of minor leaguers and another is your 7th defenseman. eesh...I won't give up because this team does not quit but the cards are definitely stacked against them.

Forget the JV defense, this is bordering on the Freshman team.

Are there any amerk fans here? I've heard good things about Paetsch. Not that he can replace mckee, but from what ive heard, he is pretty good (at least, better than janik)

Good time for the forwards to put 6 or seven goals into the net, don't you think?

The Sabres need to play all game 7 like they played the first period in game 6.

My dream finish:

In OT Janik, Jillson or Paetsch score.

That would be quite the exclamation point on the end of this sentence! As well as shut the doubters up! I'm not sure my heart could take tonights game going into OT, rather have the sabres pwn them in regulation

Paetsh is better than Janny, he was out with an injury during the season..

Janik - 71, 5+19=24, +8
Paetsh - 72, 11+39=50, +3
Jillson - 73, 10+20=30, -2

Screw the game. Hopefully he's OK. Staph infections are nothing to joke about.

Time to suck up. No time to cry about injuries. Show everyone how good and tough this team is and win no matter what.

I heard that Paetsh was more of an offensive defenseman. That is probably why he wasn't playing, because they wanted a more defensive defenseman.

If it was too bad, I would think he would be in the hospital.

And hopefully he heals up in time for Monday if it is important by then.

He is expected to make a full recovering, just not in time for the game.

If Janik, Jillson and Paestch were good enough to play in the NHL some team in the league would have beaten down the door to get them already...
