In a move that will save the Chargers $3 million on their 2003 salary cap, and also likely salvage a roster spot for Doug Flutie, the nine-year veteran quarterback has restructured his contract. Flutie agreed to reduce his base salary from the $4.5 million that he was scheduled to earn under the six-year contract signed with the Chargers in 2001 to just $655,000, the minimum salary for a player of his tenure.
