WOW, Willis came in trim, ~225!

Posted By: Chris Brown | Time: 1:30 PM ET | Link

Well Willis made it in for the mandatory camp starting today.

The first thing I noticed was how trim he was. I would guess he's anywhere from 223 to 225 pounds. (He wouldn't divulge his weight). Last year at times he was as heavy as 235.

In my opinion that's too heavy for him and takes away some of McGahee's elusiveness. There were times last year where I would see him get tripped up in the backfield or out in the flat by an arm tackle and that usually doesn't happen with him. But I think the extra weight hindered him at times.

Then again with all the hits he was taking with the subpar blocking last year the extra "padding" may have helped to protect him a bit.

You should slap your rich friend, and then sue him saying you sprained your wrist while doing it.

While this changes nothing with regard to contract staus and a possible hold out looming on the horizon it is very good news in terms of where his mind is at.

He needs to have a big year before he starts thinking new contract. Maybe the weight loss and better conditioning will help him get there.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

Anyone else excited about this? IMO, the biggest problem with Willis last year was that he was too damn big. He spent way too much time in the weight room and that took away from his speed. I'm thrilled that he lost weight. That should help him go back to the Willis McGahee that we saw in 2004 and we might even get to see some breakaway speed by now.

I just hope he brings his stiffarm back too. That was NASTY!

I agree, Mikey. A big year by Willis will also help our QB - hopefully Losman.

Cool, now the real competition begins. I hope the A-Train nd Gates are ahead of him so he needs to get his head back into the thick of things.

Hells yeah! This was the only way he could make up for missing those voluntary mini camps.

Hells ya, I recall a time when he stiff-armed this guy named Ray F'in Lewis to the ground....that thing is lethal.

So, I guess I wasn't such an idiot afterall for backing the guy.....Nice job ICE, as usual. Get off his case, he wants to win, I mean, he wants more money.

"I'm leaner and lighter," said McGahee. "I'm going to be even lighter when I come in (for training camp)."

Wow, would this be great or what?
