View Full Version : Bills: Have a Low Budget

Mark Gaughan, of the Buffalo News, reports the Buffalo Bills will payout to their top 51 players about $75 million, which is one of the lowest figures in the league. The figure does not have any correlation to the salary cap and is not a sign of a rebuilding team, as two playoff teams from a year ago, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, will have lower real money figures this season.

And from what i have read we will be in even better shape next year so hopefully Marv is gonna be active again next year maybe go after a top pass rusher or maybe a proven QB if the three ring circus doesnt pan out

Ralph is around the budget he's willing to spend. It may increase some but nothing drastic. Don't expect to go on a shopping spree because we have the money.

Ralph is going to be like the bungles while they sucked and drafted in the top 3 for a decade. He won't spend money which will leave us 15 mill+ under the cap each year.

We need a new owner NOW!

You accuse Ralph of being a cheap owner (which i do agree with) but how can you complain that Ralph doesn't spend the money when the players he could/should spend the money on you want cut or traded? (Clements, McGahee, Moulds, Adams, Fletcher)

Cincy had a decade's worth of bad drafts. You build the foundation through the draft and add parts from free agency. Ralph never stopped TD from signing guys he wanted and TD was amazingly successful in getting the guys he targeted. He made some poor decisions but that's not on Ralph. I think you need to be fair and give Levy/Jauron a chance. There was little point in flushing a bunch of money on a few high priced vets when you've got a team full of question marks. This season will give us a much better look at where we are.

we've had close to a decade's worth of bad drafts too, and so far this year's doesn't seem any better.

I agree with you, I just wish he'd keep his word back when he said he doesnt care about spending money to get a win-now team... He said that in press confriance right around the same time Levy came back as GM. Ahh what can ya do...

Hey T. Dummy read rest of article!
It mentions they need to pay for two 1st round picks as well - none of the picks are included.

so far, this year's draft class hasn't even played a down of preseason. Can't judge a draft class based on how many name guys we picked up. At the time, 2002 looked like a pretty solid draft...picked up a stud RT in the first...a sure-handed slot WR in the 2nd and a good amount of quality depth. Peter King thought we had the 9th best draft http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/peter_king/news/2002/04/22/mmqb/

That's why I said it seemed like it's another bad draft. You're right, no one will know if it's good or bad for a couple of seasons yet. But when all of the first day moves received a pretty much universal "What the ****?" from anyone who knows about football, it's not a good sign.

By the way posting an entire article (if it was one) is a violation and you can be suspended by MODs with repeated violations. KFFL does not count for they only copy news from other sources.

The Bills are not done spending money yet this season. As has been pointed out, the team has yet to sign its rookies. Additionally, the Bills have been talking with the agents for both Peters and Fletcher about extensions for the two of them--and they will have to spend some serious money to get those done. Supposedly they are also talking with Dinwiddie at this point as well. And, they may even talk with Clements and some other players (Kelsay may be one if he has a good season) about new contracts.

Also, the way that they are going about building this team with young players--some with a bit of experience elsewhere--they may also be looking to who ends up getting cut in the preseason with an eye to picking up a couple of more players there. Steve Tasker was a player that the Bills acquired that way and I believe Marv mentioned one or two others as well in his book. (BTW: this is something the Pats have been doing successfully for several years now and, if you noticed in the article, they are a team that has spent even less than the Bills this season thus far--which likely means that they, too, are doing this same thing yet again.)

When you add even just some of those things up, that could represent a fair amount of money being spent. I also agree with DrewBlueFan in the sense that they are using a lot of their time this season, including the off-season and pre-season, to evaluate what they have got in the players that are currently on the roster. I think that they want to hold back a little to see who is worth paying and who is not and to determine what positions they are going to have to go out and spend serious money to upgrade next off-season. I see them taking a deliberately conservative approach to leave the team some cushion that can be used in case some of the signings that they have already made do not work out positively. While I doubt that the Bills will end up spending right up to the salary cap this season as they have in the recent past, when all is said and done, however, I do believe that they will wind up somewhere in the middle of the pack in NFL in terms of spending this season.

There's still a long way to go before the season starts and a lot of places where the Bills can and, in the case of the rookies, will have to spend money. I wouldn't be too concerned about the fact that they haven't shot their entire wad just yet--it is, after all, still just the middle of June.

So you think we've played some preseason games??? Of course you know we haven't its just another attempt to distort reality to fit your perception of it. Not to mention everyone gets beat, not to mention he's a rookie who has never played a down of football in the NFl, not to mention even the greatest db's get beat.

Who said anything about preseason GAMES? This is the preseason right now. It's not preseason GAMES, it's Preseason.

Did I say anything bad about Youboty being beat? NO. I was asking about the rookies not being able to play in the preseason without being signed.
