The weight problems that prompted Buffalo to cut offensive lineman Mike Williams have followed him to Jacksonville, even threatening his chances to make the team.

Williams, a former first-round pick who received a $1.4 million signing bonus from the Jaguars in March, missed practice Wednesday because of back pain that coach Jack Del Rio attributed in part to excess weight.

The 6-foot-6 Williams, who is listed at 370 pounds, said last month that his goal weight is 340 pounds.

"It can't help to have extra weight on, and he still needs to drop some weight," Del Rio said, refusing to specify how much.

The Jaguars signed Williams with the expectation that he would challenge for a starting job, but Del Rio said that isn't realistic as long as Williams is overweight and not practicing.

"At this point in the offseason, he's not even practicing," Del Rio said of the team's four remaining voluntary workouts. "So he can't possibly be competing for a starting job if he's not even practicing."

heck, even for the guy's own current and long-term health - if he's at 370 being somewhat athletic, think what he'll do to himself if he gets cut and has that 20 mill in the bank - that's a lot of freaking ho-ho's...

Why should he bother working hard? He got $20M+ from the Bills and another $1.4M from the Jags. He could live off of that for the rest of his life.

At 370 lbs. the rest of his life might be another 6 months.
