Feb. 14, 2003) -- Peyton Manning can remember a time when he actually enjoyed watching postseason games, when he actually considered it a part of his NFL education.

"My first year, '98, every team was so much better than us," the Indianapolis Colts' quarterback says. "I could watch, and say, 'It would be great to be like the Broncos and the Falcons.' "

The Colts were still picking up the pieces of a 3-13 season when Denver faced Atlanta in Super Bowl XXXIII . Even the following year, after the bitterness of a three-point loss to Tennessee in the divisional round, Manning's eyes were glued to the remaining playoff games and to St. Louis' thrilling win over the Titans in the Super Bowl.

It has been harder and harder to watch after that.

"Since then," Manning says, "you're watching and thinking, 'I know we can beat those guys.' "
