BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Sabres co-captain Daniel Briere received the team's one-year, $1.94 million US qualifying offer but plans to try and negotiate a better deal, his agent said.
Pat Brisson said Tuesday that although he's not had any talks with the Sabres yet, he anticipates the two sides to have extensive negotiations to work out a long-term contract after Briere emerged as one of the team's stars last season.

"I anticipate them to be serious with Danny," Brisson told The Associated Press. "I'm pretty sure they're going to be serious in trying to retain Danny for many years."

not signing our players ot long term deals is the kiss of death IMO.

PPlayers want and deserve some multi year contracts and the security that comes with these deals.

If we low ball our RFA's they'll defintiely seek thier long term contracts elsewhere when they become UFA's and probably not give Buffalo much of a chance to re-sign them. If the team I played for kept offering me 1 year deals I'd start getting pissed off and start making plans to go elsewhere.

I anticipate a long-term deal before the season starts.

Tender the restricted first, attempt to re-sign the unrestricted that you wish to keep, then negotiate with the RFA's longer deals...in that order.
