ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Rams have acquired quarterback Dave Ragone from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick, the Rams said Wednesday.
Ragone, who is left-handed, is expected to compete with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jeff Smoker for the No. 3 quarterback job behind starter Marc Bulger and backup Gus Frerotte.
The deal is contingent upon Ragone passing a physical. If he does, the Bengals will get a seventh-round pick in the 2007 draft, according to a source who asked to remain anonymous.
The Bengals claimed Ragone, 26, off waivers from Houston on May 24. He was a third-round pick by the Texans in the 2003 draft, and started twice his rookie season, completing 20 of 40 passes for 135 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He has not played since.
