Former UNO, NFL football star topic of new locally produced film

Who was the first black man to start as an NFL quarterback? Don’t know? That would be Omaha’s own Marlin Briscoe.
Omaha is also the hometown of film and television actor John Beasley, who is set to star in a film based on Briscoe’s life story titled Third and Long, to be shot (where else?) right here in Omaha. more

He was a great wide receiver here.

Led the entire AFC in catches in 1970.

He was so good that Shula traded for him. He ended up a player on the 1972 undefeated fish team.

He was so good we thought Dennis Shaw was good.

Did you see any of those games EE?

              Talk about simple O.

Get Marlin singled up on the left side. Launch a duck 30 yards and let Marlin go up and get it.
              Worked all the time.

                They were a crappy team.

After 8 QB's played in 1968, Dennis Shaw looked like Joe Namath.

You are correct there. We had a string of total QB horror before Dennis showed up.

He was rookie of the year in 70, but in 71 we knocked out an impressive 1-13 record while being the only team in non strike NFL history to score the least points and give up the most.
Not so good for Dennis' sophmore season, and a real tough environment to "sell" a new stadium idea to the wonderful t'payers in Erie County.
Oh well. Water under the bridge.

Back to Marlin though, that guy could play.

He could throw, catch anything close, and bring back punts.

I swear they ran that clear our play to him every series in '70.
Dude could go up and get it!

Haven Moses on the other side wasn't too shabby either.

                        You got that right.
I saw Haven his first day at camp and I thought he was God.

By the way-guess who had the third most receptions that year under Magician and Moses.

                        Your boy.
The big rumbler grabbed 35 that season.
I have absolutely no recall of his "yards after catch" though.

                        I suspect there were none.

We were just talking about this on the 4th of July.

The Bills should have started Lamonica in 1967 and traded Kemp, who was getting a little long in the tooth. Perhaps then 1968 and 1971 don't happen.

On the other hand, Simpson probably becomes an Eagle.

Dennis' passes had more hang time than the Bills punter at the time.

You are right about the decison to cut loose Lamonica, but there were "rumors" flying around him at the time involving inapproprate boinkage, not that I believed them.

You are right about that move leading us to Simpson, but it also led us to a legislator.
Imagine if Kemp went to Oakland and got into California politics.
