NEW YORK (AP) - Brendan Shanahan became the second big-time forward to say goodbye to the Detroit Red Wings this offseason, agreeing to a one-year deal worth $4 million with the New York Rangers on Sunday.

The 37-year-old forward followed longtime Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman as players who won't be returning to Hockeytown. Yzerman announced his retirement last week after 22 years in Detroit.

In his only full season for Hartford, Brendan scored 44 goals. For his efforts, he got to play in another All-Star Game that year. Soon, though, he was traded again. On 9 October (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_9) 1996 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996), just two games into the season, Shanahan and Bryan Glynn (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bryan_Glynn&action=edit) were traded to the Detroit Red Wings for Keith Primeau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Primeau), Paul Coffey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Coffey), and a first-round draft pick.

This sucks... I have a feeling I'm going to lose a lot of interest in the Red Wings this season since all my favorites are starting to leave.

It's alright though, I'll be too busy showing everybody in Raleigh what real hockey fans are like with my Sabres gear! I found out my apartment is only about 10 minutes from the RBC Center!

even mighty detroit fans are pissed about their free agentcy and contract issues,

Detroit cant afford to keep all the suer stars on their team any more....:bandwagon

detroit is an Underachiving team with padded stats thanks to their division, hopefully Mckee and Grier help kick detroits butt, i wanna see detriot with a Below .500 Season for a change...:oops:
