From the afternoon edition of The Buffalo News:

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Buffalo Bills have decided to place a franchise tag on receiver Peerless Price to keep him off the free-agent market The Buffalo News has learned.

The Bills were expected to inform the National Football League of their decision by the end of business today, according to a team source and a league source...

Why???? Peerless is not a top 5 wide receiver.

TD must have a trade in the works.

Like I said in the FA WR thread, you look at that list and there isn't much there. Are you going to go and get in a bidding war for Kevin Dyson and pay him $3+ mil a year?

Tagging Price does make some sense.

I guess going after Spikes is out of the question if we don't trade Price?

Here's an idea....Price to Cincy, and they let us have Spikes and a 2nd rounder. :D

I am on the buffalo news site right now and I don't see anything about it.

Yeah...KFFL doesn't have anything either. I hope this is just another rumor.

I will believe it when I see a link from a credible source.

Why, AWM? If we tag him...it means that we are working on a trade too. Maybe a first rounder? The right to Spikes and a draft pick?

We need a stud defender and not a stud wr. Price is not worth top 5. I hope it's all rumor.

I am skeptical of this story after reading in the Rochester paper that TD said he would not get in a bidding war for Price. If they do tag Peerless, you can bet that there is a trade in the works. No way TD will pay both Price and Moulds that kind of money! Espically when he knows there are so many other weaknesses on this team.

Interesting note: This is how Price compares to the Bills all-time wide receivers through their first four seasons:

1.) Peerless Price: 3,302 Yards, 22TDs
2.) Andre Reed: 3,096 Yards, 22TDs
3.) Jerry Butler: 2,844 Yards, 22TDs
4.) Eric Moulds: 2,935 Yards, 18TDs
5.) Elbert Dubenion: 2,758 Yards, 22TDs

I found this to be very interesting. However, I realize that there are alot of factors that effect a players stats.

Why would Cincy want to trade for him? Trading a proven LB for a RCVR that had one good year is not a smart trade.

It takes two first rounders to grab a franchise player anyway. The only way we could trade with Cincy is if we already have a long term deal worked out with Price.

TD could have made a deal with a team like Atlanta or Washington.

Scenario: Bills tag Peerless. Bills trade Peerless. Bills acquire #1 pick as part of the trade. Bills talk to Cincy. Bills acquire Spikes from Cincy using the #1 pick acquired for Peerless. Hmmmmm.........

I like your thinking, clump!

Just one thing guys...I have WNSA on my computer and WGR on my radio....neither one of them are talking about Price and a tag. NOTHING has been said! No tag has been made official. We will know by midnight tonight though. :D

Everyone seems to forget that the tag could buy us time. We could tag him, work out a deal and we wouldn’t be paying him 5+ Mil. I don’t mind the decision. Personally, I think our offense would suffer without him. Sure Moulds helped him, but at the same time, he helped Moulds.

Thats true Patrick! We could tag him now and sign him or trade him later. :D The only bad thing is that we would have that money tied up with the cap until we sign him or trade him. :(

Sure but after cutting Jay R. We’d still have about 7 or 8 million to spend. That’s a ton of money…..Plus we don’t have to worry about signing a first rounder! We’d have enough cash to throw around for awhile.

Read the afternoon edition of The Buffalo News for confirmation... Mark Gaughn wrote the story. It doesn't appear on the website because the website is updatd once a day around 9 AM. If that's not enough, call the sports department.
