The NHL arbitration hearings start Thursday in Toronto, and the Buffalo Sabres will find out quickly how high their payroll could reach.

The first case of the year will feature co-captain Daniel Briere, who averaged more than a point per game last year while making $1.9 million. Similar players have been getting substantially bigger contracts this summer, and the center has a successful record at the hearings. He earned a $950,000 raise in 2004.

Whatever this hit is, he deserves it and he should be locked up long term.

sure, they depends on how much they want to budget...Briere is going to get at least $2.5 mil. Tallinder and Lydman could get $2 mil each. I hope Darcy eats cheap in Toronto...this is going to be expensive

No meal money for him. No strip clubs either, they are expensive (so I've heard)

How much can Briere get:question: well check this out

The 28-year-old could be in for a big payday. The Chicago Blackhawks recently reached a three-year, $18 million deal with forward Martin Havlat, who has similar career numbers. Briere has 241 points in 290 games over his last four seasons.

Briere could potentially get $4-6 million, according to the TSN article. If an arbitrator does base his case on Havlat's signing (Especially for a guy who hasn't played a full season lately.....Havlat), then Briere is going to get a huge raise. I just hope that Darcy can get a deal done before the hearing.

He could get $4-6 mil only if he is asking for it...

anybody have a clue what he is asking for and what the team is offering??

Neither did Havlat....and look what he got.

Danny & Miller should command the most $$. To me, Max just doesn't deserve a ton of money, unless flashy skating earns big bucks in the NHL.

After ther hearingd, do you have any idea what would happen if The Sabres thought Briere, Tallender, and Miller's numbers were too much and they let them go to free agency? I think I would have to stop watching Sabres hockey all together. It's one thing for all these guys to go to arbitration and max out the league's cap. But if our "cap" is set $10-15 mil below the league cap and they let these guys go, I'm sorry, but I don't think I could watch anymore. Yeah you might not make as big as a profit NEXT season as you would like, but I can promise you that you will not make a profit at all if these guys are let go because the Sabres are cheap. Let's just hope it doesn't go down like that. I don't think it will but I could see at least one player getting screwed. (Maxim)

dunno,

but jumping a players salary 4+ Million Dollars over 1 Good Season is Dumb, the Abritration is smoking crack, if salaries continue to jump no one will be able to pay the players at all under caps..

It isn't Abritrations fault. It's the other teams paying stupid salaries.

I think he'll end up in the Drury range around $3.5 mil.

That won't kill us.

Exactly. I can't believe some of the salaries that are being handed out by GMs, and this even after all of the whining about how salaries were escalating.
