I'm curious what an agent makes when his client signs a contract or is tagged.

Prices's agent apparently is disappointed that he was tagged. Doesn't he get a healthy chunk of the "measly" 5 mil Price is slated to make now that he is tagged?

AND that's usually paid upfront.

$30 million contract X 3-5%=$900,000-$1.5 million

Hell...I could do that.

Buffnews: Gee AWM, what do you think of XXXXX being tagged by the Bills?

AWM: Disappointing.

See??!!! Anybody could do that!

That is usually why players are broke their first year or two...after they buy their stuff, pay the agent, buy the house, etc...

In the NBA- the maximum a player can make is 13.8 million.

A lot of guys, like Ray Allen of the Bucks, are dumping their agents and pocketing the extra money.

The CBA in the NBA allows it. NFLPA requires representation

I know Eb. I was just voicing my total lack of sympathy about a player's inability to manage his millions of dollars :D

My wonder has always been, if you can hire a good lawyer at a flat rate to read the contract (I am betting most of them are boilerplate anyway) why do you even need an agent?

I agree AWM.

They need to have a cap on what a player can sign a contract for. That will help a lot.

I wonder if having a "pool" of agents would be a possible option? A player is assgned an agent at random from that pool. That would eliminate some of the shady deals and inflated contracts for mediocre players when an agent has multiple clients on one team (like happened to us a few years ago)
