Marshall Faulk is done for the season

Seven-time Pro Bowl tailback Marshall Faulk, the ninth-leading rusher in NFL history and a future Hall of Fame member, will undergo knee surgery next week that will sideline him for the 2006 season and possibly end his career.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk will have major reconstructive knee surgery and almost certainly miss the entire 2006 season, a blow that could spell the end of his career.
Though coach Scott Linehan said at a news conference Friday that the 33-year-old Faulk wasn't ready to call it quits, retirement might be on the horizon.
"We were hoping for the best, but we've been planning for both scenarios," said Linehan, in his first year with the Rams. "I think reality is setting in for sure that potentially his career is winding down."
Faulk had been contemplating retirement during the off-season, before news of his latest surgery. He didn't attend the news conference, and his agent, Rocky Arceneaux, didn't return a phone call seeking comment.
The 2000 NFL MVP is expected to have the surgery on one of his knees next week. It was unclear which knee would be the focus of the operation. Faulk had lesser surgery on both knees earlier this year

With a solidly entrenched Steven Jackson as starter, the Rams won't even want a 34 year old Marshall Faulk to come in as a backup next year. He'd be too expensive and you have to assume he's going to be fragile. They'll want someone younger, hungrier, more durable, and cheaper. They'll tell him, "Marshall, retire or we'll have to cut you." I don't really think that's the way he'd want to end it.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.
