When asked what he thinks about his team’s new defense, Buffalo Bills safety Coy Wire tries to measure his words.
But the smile that comes across his face gives him away.
“It’s a high-energy, aggressive, attacking defense,” Wire said of new defensive coordinator Perry Fewell’s Tampa-2 scheme. “I believe that’s the way game should be played. ... I really think it fits our players’ mentalities well.”
High energy and aggressive are two terms often used to describe Wire’s play.
So is it a natural conclusion to say the Tampa-2 is the ideal defense for Wire?
“All I’ll say is I feel very comfortable in this defense,” he said. “I feel it.”

It sounds like he is competing for a starting SS position, even though i'm sure the job will go to Whitner once he signs....but on the bright side for me, i don't think Wire's going to be cut after all.:up:
With Milloy being released this offseason, the strong safety job again came open. But new General Manager Marv Levy and coach Dick Jauron believe competition brings out the best in players, so Wire finds himself in what should soon be a three-way battle for the job with veteran free agent Matt Bowen and as-yet-unsigned first-round pick Donte Whitner.
