Does this mean they let Brier walk? Or do they have a deal on the table with some other teams.

I would absolutely love it if they just kept everyone, but I just don't see it happening.

Maybe they shouldnt have signed Spacek for 3.3 million then? Spending cash on UFA's and then complaining that you can't afford existing players salaries and nickle and diming guys that got you to the ECF seems a bit silly doesn't it?

Maybe I haven't kept up but who haven't they signed besides Brier that they really wanted to keep and who has been nickled and dimed?

BTW I think Brier will be sign after they get everyone else takin care of.

They can't wait they got 48 hours after Mair which has his arbitration on 8/4 or comes to an agreement to make a desicison or Briere becomes a UFA!

Of course this will be looked at as "negativity" (Of course, anything short of praising every decision here is "negative"), but I need to see Max's contract numbers, so I can decide. I hope that too much wasn't given out, because Max may have had a career year last season, but he's still not an elite player for this squad, while Briere is. Even Dumont is more dependable than Max, and he was let go to arbitration as well. If Dumont got overpaid but Briere is let walk, something is very wrong here.

BUFFALO (AP) - Forward Maxim Afinogenov agreed to a reported three-year deal with the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, the team avoiding what could have been an expensive salary arbitration hearing.

Terms of the deal were not immediately available, but it's anticipated that Afinogenov will receive a big raise over the $1.086 million US he made in leading the Sabres with a career-high 73 points last season. Afinogenov was scheduled to have his hearing Thursday.

I'm betting Danny gets his money, and his years, right after Mair signs.

That's nothing concrete, though.

I think of all of the arbitration cases, Max was most expendable. Looks like I was wrong.

I still say trade him...packaged with Biron should bring a pretty nice return to the Sabres.

They can't, not until January.

I'm betting Danny gets his money, and his years, right after Mair signs.

He can get the one year contract or walk in free agency. Those are the only options for the Sabres. They can't talk contract again with him until January.

It could have been a sign and trade deal if Max was for it.

Oops...my bad...I forgot about that.

How's this...the contract will be written and the terms 'agreed to', but not signed until January.

I think he was locked up so they can trade him. Because if he went to arbitration, they couldnt trade him until January.

It comes with a price though

Maxim Afinogenov agreed to a three-year, $10 million contract with the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, the team avoiding what could have been an expensive salary arbitration hearing with the forward.
Afinogenov will make $3 million next season and $3.5 million in each of the last two years

3.3 mill a season is cheap for him.

Yes it is.

Imo, this has been a successful offseason. Most FA's are signing multi-year deals.

I wouldn't expect Max to be on the team whe camp breaks. And unless we find a backup goalie, Biron will still be on our team.

Excellent job getting him done before arbitration, ryan miller, danny boy, and jp left to go, i could care less about Dimitri and adam mair, both are very replaceable
