Does the SabresZone have a capologist, like Clump over in the BillsZone? It would be nice to know the financial parameters that the Sabres are working with throughout the season. I'm too ******ed to do it.

Thanks for offering Clump. I am sure it would be a lot easier than football. I don't know who runs the SabresZone, but hopefully they will take the necessary steps to get you signed with a nice bonus, amortized, obviously.

being a capologist is more than creating a spreadsheet...unless you can get a copy of the CBA it is very hard to follow what goes on with contracts.

You can't use the $44 million when figuring the Sabres' payroll. I highly doubt Golisano is going to allow Darcy to take the payroll all the way to the limit.

I agree, we would be lucky if we are at $36-37 mil.

Looking at the numbers- where are the guys who were crying that we didn't "try" to sign McKee, or keep Grier? Or only signed one FA?

Waaaahhhhhh...Golisano is cheap....waaaahhhhhhh....McKee would have stayed for 3 million instead of takin 4 million (yeah- sure)

I think Golisano is smart enough to realize that he will make more money with a $40 + million payroll and an Eastern conference final team than strip down what he has and barely be able to make the playoffs as it is.

Give Riger & Co. a chance to keep the nucleus together. So far, he's made all the right moves since the end of the strike- and people still aren't happy.

Yikes $41 million without Kalinin, Mair, or Miller signed. No way we get in under the $44mil cap without trading Biron, $2mil is way too much for a backup. The sabres went from one of the lowest payrolls to at the cap maximum.

Just waiting for the other shoe to drop. McKee had said he was looking for around $3 million for 4 years. I guess he is just a liar.

I never said Golisano is cheap though. If this team starts the season with everyone they currently have and Kalinin with the exception of Biron, I will be really happy.

**Raises hand**

I stand by what I said about Jay:

Had Darcy gotten off of his ass before this season, then McKee doesn't get the bloated $4 million/season. He'd have able to be retained with a "hometown" discount in the offseason just after the lockout ended.

Darcy has caused the Sabres a tremendous amount of pain this year because he decided to test the FA financials of the new NHL.

The Sabres are going to be 10 million over their budget. After we deal with the rest of our FA's we might be over the cap. This team cannot afford to be 10 million over, and the sabres management has made this quite clear. So there is going to have to be some major adjustments IMO .

My new fear is we now have to purge salaries off of our roster so the team can have a chance at staying out of the red. If we have to release/trade another 3 - 5 more players so the team can have a chance at a profit in 2007 then how happy could/would you be?

We may keep a core in tact on this team, but if I remember the 2005 - 2006 season and what made it so great, is that the team had balance on all 4 lines. Each night a new star emerged, or a different line stepped up. Can we really expect the 2006 - 2007 Sabres to be the same, extremely well balanced team after we swap out 5 - 7 new players from a team we all felt would have won the cup last year minus injuries. I don't believe any GM can swap out a 1/3 of their Staley Cup worthy roster and expect the similiar results.

I don't hate Darcy, nor do I have a complete lack of faith in him, but I am far from being happy with our predicament this year.

5-7 players? :lmao:

What are you talking about?

We'll drop 3-4 players at tops.

I say: Biron, Kalinin, Dumont are gone. Thats like what 7.2 million+ cap relief? we'll pick up a goalie..about 700,000.. and a prospect..550,000...and draft picks... so thats about 6 mill off our cap. I think we'll be fine.

From an AP story:

Including Dumont's and Mair's salaries, Buffalo's payroll is currently around $38 million, roughly $6 million below the league's upcoming $44 million salary cap.

I'm sick of being over our budget but well below the cap. If Golisano is a fan of the team, he should be willing to take a loss. Every time a fan buys a ticket, it's a financial loss for that fan.
