Aussie coming for try out with the Bills

Australian Rules Football player is heading to Buffalo for a Punting try out. He has had his eye on a punt jub for a long time and the success of Jets Punter Ben Graham has given him an extra spur! It's being reported and confirmed by Rocca that his destination is Buffalo. I've long though Rocca is a far better kick than Graham, but I don't like his chances of taking Moorman's job.

Kangaroos full-forward Sav Rocca could cut short his 2006 season and end his AFL career before round 22 in order to pursue his National Football League punting ambitions.

Roos coach Dean Laidley said Rocca regularly "fills me in" about when he might possibly be heading to the United States, which could put an abrupt end to his outstanding AFL career that has produced 253 matches and 737 goals.

"He'll play this week - that's 98 (matches for the Kangaroos)," Laidley said at Telstra Dome on Thursday.

"He's just about bedded down an opportunity to punt in the states and have a trial and that's probably going to happen over the next few weeks, so if he goes well, they might tell him to pack his bags and get back there.
"He might play one (more) game or he might play four games, so it really is up in the air at the moment.

"These things take a bit of time to organise and he's going through that process now and he's keeping me up to speed with it all, so we're very happy for him to be able to do that."

Laidley didn't divulge which NFL team Rocca had been linked with, but he was adamant the goalkicking ace had the talent and desire to make an impact in America.

"Certainly, the thing that he'll have to work on is that he can kick and his hang-time is just as good and he can kick it as far as they can, but it'll be the consistency (that he needs to work on)," Laidley said.

"Can he kick 19 out of 20 every single time? I'm sure that he and his coaches or the people that he's dealing with in that area will be really working on."

Why go to the team with a pro bowl punter?

Yeah. Strange, unless he wants to work with and learn from Moorman and April, so as to latch on with another team later. Although I don't know how smart that is.

I was going to ask about that, If he comes over for a try out do other teams get a chance to watch it or would it be a closed door try out?

punters are a dime a dozen... I know moorman is special, but most are interchangable with a street free agent in a heartbeat.

I dont think any team keeps a backup punter on the roster... if the punter gets hurt teams grab one off the street in a moments notice.

Look I dont have a problem with checking guys out, BUT GET WITNER SIGNED and quit screwing around with the QBs ! Pay attention to the important stuff!

i didnt mean as a back up on the roster.. just as a guy on the street that they could bring in if needed.

I wonder if there has been any thought to trying him as a kickoff specialist as well.

I know it's a roster spot but a lot of teams are doing it.
