Backup RB spot will be hotly contested in Buffalo

Our Caesars Sportsbook Promo Code 'USBETCZR' offers all new players at Caesars Sportsbook online sportsbook and mobile app up to $1,100 as first-bet insurance.

"The favorite to win that job is Lionel Gates, a second-year man out of Louisville. Buffalo used its seventh-round pick in the 2005 draft on Gates, who shared time in his Cardinals career with Eric Shelton, now a Carolina Panther.

In his first training camp and preseason, the 24-year-old Gates was arguably the Bills' most impressive offensive player. Unfortunately for the 233-pounder, Buffalo's ex-head coach, Mike Mularkey, inexplicably kept the Jacksonville, FL native inactive for most of his rookie season.

Well, another camp is underway, and Gates is at it again. In the Bills' first 12 days of practice, he's looked outstanding. Gates even demonstrated his dual-threat ability in a Wednesday practice, catching a deep pass from quarterback J.P. Losman. If Gates has another big-time preseason, there's almost no way the new staff can stymie him from accumulating playing time in 2006."

I love the kid... hoping that get's the job to spell McGahee 5-10 times a game.

I don't think it was unwise to let Gates sit for a season. That could prove to be just what he needed to fully recover from his injury. Remember before the injury he was a stud in Louisville with starter like numbers in a 3 RB tandem.

Kenneth Davis... if he has a career like that I would be thrilled.
