    Perry Fewell

I love what I've heard and seen from this guy so far. He has a familiar persona that I can only compare to the likes of a Mike Ditka, a Tom Coughlin, a Jon gruden, a Bill Parcells, or even my high school football coach for that matter.

All of the guys I've listed above have several key factors in common. They're known as hard nosed, no-nonsense *******s that have proven they can assemble and motivate a bunch of individual football players, into a team of winners. Fear is their best motivator. And thus far it seems that Fewell has adopted the same ideology.

Screaming at players and belittling them while exposing mistakes in front of their peers is a sure fire way to a winning team. It was the way I was coached through my youth and I can't think of single occasion where it hadn't worked.

My high school coach kicked me off the football team once for having missed just one practice. He didn't ask why, he just simply waited until everyone was dressed out and as soon as we gathered on one knee to his first chirping command the start of practice, he called me out, humilated me in front of everyone (including the practicing cheerleading squad near by). As I stood alone, he told me to pack my **** and get off his football field. Later I was invited back to the team after I did some serious groveling and explaining, but he never once started me that season. A position I was destined because of performance from the previous season. We went undeafeated and came in 3rd in state at the JV level. When he was given the varsity team the following year, the team finished 2nd and 3rd in my two remaining years. During that time there wasn't another player to miss a single practice

Football demands respect, premotes self-discipline and requests assertiveness from it's leaders. The US military uses a similar philosphy and still stands as the world's best today.

I sincerely believe that what Fewell has commited himself to will transpire in the regular season. It may take a game or two to gel and sift through the weak, but when it's all said and done, the Bills will have that monster D once again.

It doesn't always work. Dick Lebeau who was obviously the brains behind our top ranked D didn't yell at players.

      Niether does Wade Philipps.

True, it takes the right coach to use it, and I never said it was the only way of coaching. I just believe that it's the best way and under certain circumstances I also believe it's right for this defense..

I agree, it's just right for this aggressive, fast, attacking defense. I loved it when I read Fewell was screaming at Whitner about getting to the ball. If Whitner wants to win the starting position over Bowen, he can't take plays off.

Totally disagree on the approach. These guys are professionals, and they need to be treated like professionals. Treating them like kids will breed resentment and hostility.

At the high school level, you can afford to bench players to make a point. You can't do that at this level. And when **** hits the fan, the coach will get the boot before the players every time.

                  It's a proven tactic.

Where's the proof? And don't tell me the military is the proof...

You know, to be honest, I don't have the energy to be "PaulB'd" today. If you really have to know look up the facts yourself. I've already gave you a head start in the opening paragraph.

Don't tell that to Manny Wright.

not yelling is also a proven tactic. BB has been more successful than Parcells. I don't like extremes. Moolarkey was a nice guy and that made the vets walk all over him.

LOL. So what you're really saying is you don't have proof or anything logical to say.. should have just said that, would have been easier.

P.S. what was the name of that fatass offensive line coach we had a few years back? His yelling really worked for us, didn't it? :P

I think being good at what you do is also a proven tactic. Belittling a person only goes so far. To be truley good at what you do, you have to know what you want to accomplish first and then learn how each individual is motivated. Some people need a kick in the pants to become motivated, some need to have their ego stroked and some only look at the reward at the end. What works for some doesn't work for everyone. That is why you have so much upheaval when a new coach is hired, because he can't coach certain players.
