    Franchise Player Timeline and Tidbits

    Franchise Player Timeline -
February 6 - March 15. Teams can sign a franchise player to a long-term deal and be able to use the franchise player designation on another player during the entire length of the deal.
March 15 - July 14. Teams can sign a franchise player to a long-term deal but the team will not be able to use the franchise player tag on another player during the entire length of the franchised player's deal.
July 15 on - Teams can sign a franchise player to a long-term deal and be able to use the franchise player designation on another player during the entire length of the franchised player's deal.

If a team signs a franchise player to a long-term deal and then trade him the same day to another NFL club, the team will be deemed to have used its franchise designation for only the 2003 season giving them the right to use the franchise player designation next offseason. The same day is a direct quote from the CBA.

In the end, there are only three liberal archetypes: The fools, the beneficiaries and the crooks.
"If you build a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day, but if you set a man on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life"
    Optyimus Ignorus Realityious!

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
    - John F. Kennedy, January 20, 1961

To live in the presence of great truths and eternal laws,
to be led by permanent ideals -
that is what keeps a man patient
    when the world ignores him,
and calm and unspoiled when the world praises him. -- Honore De Balzac

That Mar 15-Jul 14 period seem dumb to me. Why would anytime sign a player during that time?
