I've seen one assessment of Preston which suggests he has regressed since last year.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

You know what my next question is don't you? What 3 would you cut to make room for the 3rd TE, Stamer and Wire? I'd love to have these guys BTW.

not sure...but it'd only be 2...you have 52 players listed
Terrance Pennington is on there twice...Nance would likely be practice squad..I can't see us carrying 7 WRs

Ahhh... So I have... I meant to have Brad Butler at 1 of the Tackle positions.

                      I guess we're back to 3 again.

I'd hate to give up Nance... Don't think he'd make it to the PS.

                        Re: duke preston

We carried seven last year, at least to start the season.

I could see Merz or Pennington, or both being cut to make room for the three. Also, Haggan and/or Baker.

Bowen could replace Wire on special teams, anyway, and he's a better d-back to begin with.

                        As for Preston...

He did not have a good game at all Friday. He's not ready.
...Let's take the JP approach with Duke. Put him in for 16 games, let him learn on the job, and see what we have at the end of the year.

If you really think the positions can be handled the same way like that, you need help

Why not? At least Preston would have Peters, Fowler, and the rest to help him out.

I think it's more likely a young guy will grow on the job, and possibly be successful, when learning with a group that can help cover him than at the QB position.

backup O-linemen do usually get action blocking for FGs and on special teams. It's not exactly the same as blocking on offense, but it's game action at blocking and will help. A QB will only get game action at QB...and only one plays...unless you want to see JP as a gunner on punt coverage...which would do nothing for his QBing. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised to see Preston rotating with Villiarial a little throughout the season...unless he's regressed that far.
