The Buffalo Bills didn't wait until Tuesday Aug. 29 to reduce their roster to the league required 75. The club waived four players a week prior to that cutdown date releasing defensive tackles LaWaylon Brown and Tai Tupai along with offensive tackle Matt Morgan and linebacker Courtney Watson.

Watson is the most recognizable name as he came to the Bills in a trade with New Orleans this past spring in exchange for tight end Tim Euhus. But Watson came into the spring OTAs not only behind in learning the defensive system, but also in his conditioning.

So we gave away Tim Euhus for nothing.

I bet Euhus gets cut from NO too though.

Now if only we could get rid of the cancer that is Kelly Holcomb.

Aren't we getting a little short on LB's at this point?

Spikes (who may be injured)
Fletcher
Crowell
Haggan
Stamer
Ezekiel

Who am I missing?

Hunter, who has moved past Haggan as the backup to Takeo. Haggan is in danger of being cut.

And hopefully no one picks up Watson, he works on his conditioning, and can contribute to the Bills down the line. I'm still not sold on Ezekiel, but I'd LOVE to be proven wrong.

I had high hopes for him as a possible replacement for Fletcher. Dissapointing.

Haggen is an animal on ST's. He won't be cut.

Watson being cut could mean a couple things.

Backup linebackers on this team have to be good special teamers. Maybe Watson was not.

Or, Maybe Ezekiel is just better.

I've heard a lot of good things about Ezekiel. He must be doing all the right things in practice becasue I haven't seen much from him in the 2 preseason games. He's recorded 2 T / 2 A / and forced a fumble.

DT LaWaylon Brown and Tai Tupa along with OT Matt Morgan and LB Courtney Watson were released. Not much of an affect on the Bills since Liam Ezekial was ahead of Courtney Watson on the depth chart but the Tim Euhus for Courtney Watson trade was a waist. Especially cas Euhus may be released to in the coming days in weeks being behind Zach Hilton, Ernie Conwell, and Mark Campbell on the depth chart.

What was so special about Watson, for the brass to trade for him?
Didn't they know he was out of shape before they traded?

A 'waist" is what runs around your middle. I believe you meant to say it was a "waste."

Let's keep this in perspective.

Euhus was now a 4th stringer here and Watson was a 3rd in N.O., meaning both were bubble guys. He wasn't playing here anyhow, with Royal and 2 others ahead of him. The Bills would have cut him. Now he gets a full camp to stick with a team needing TE's.

I don't resent that. We rolled the dice on cheap depth, not a starter.

I think they knew he wasn't in his best shape, but were hoping he could get it together by training camp. I don't think coaches saw Euhus having a good shot of making this team, so they probably figured why not take a chance on Watson. That would just be my guess though.

Wendell Hunter.
And Ellison, who has looked pretty good, and the UDFA DiGiorgio, who must have looked better than Watson.

We are still very deep at LB, with Spikes, Fletcher, Crowell, Stamer, Haggan, Ezekiel, Hunter, Ellison and Digiorgio. We'll keep 7, tops.

I wonder if the Patriots will grab him. They are kind of desperate for LBs and Seau was a huge reach for them. He's going to tire quickly and may need to be rotated - just like Watson would due to his being out of shape...might be a perfect match for them.

Yes he will. Hunter has been a beast thing training camp and can play ST too. Haggan's time is up IMO. Liam impressed me last year and it's nice to see him moving up the ranks. You all also forgot Ellison who has also supposedly impressed. Our depth chart looks like this:

Spikes-Fletch-Crowell
Hunter-Liam-Stamer
_____-____-Ellison

Not bad Imo..

So much for the posts from some people that said "Watson will be our next London Fletcher"

Some people talked him up like he was the 2nd coming of Lawrence Taylor and he doesn't even make the team.

I think the Phins are doing fine for LBers, but Watson was involved in a trade beforehand that was cancelled when oft-injured LB Eddie Moore failed his physical. Maybe Saban will give him another look, but I'm not sure, this late into camp.
