DAVIE, Fla. -- Offensive lineman Seth McKinney was placed on injured reserve Tuesday by the Miami Dolphins, who also waived quarterback Brock Berlin and 13 others in their first round of roster cuts.
McKinney underwent surgery earlier this month to repair a neck disc and was hopeful of returning by the midpoint of the season. He started 29 games at center over the past two seasons for the Dolphins, and was expected to move to guard this year.
Also Tuesday, the Dolphins put wide receiver Eric Kimble on the physically-unable-to-perform list, meaning he's not eligible to return until the season's seventh week, and defensive tackle Rodrique Wright on the reserve/non-football-injury list.
Berlin, who threw for 5,099 yards and 34 touchdowns in two seasons as a collegiate starter at Miami, played sparingly in the Dolphins' preseason games, completing 6 of 12 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Other players waived include guard Emmanuel Akah, wide receivers Jason Willis, Frank Murphy and Jamall Broussard, defensive tackles Steve Fifita and Howard Green, linebackers Travis Harris and Sam McGrew, kicker Ola Kimrin, punter Thomas Olmsted, safeties Siddeeq Shabazz and Norman LeJeune, and cornerback Art Thomas.
The moves put the Dolphins' roster at 75; the team must trim again to 53 players by Saturday evening.
