4th and 1 on the road....what do good coaches do?

Bill Parcells was just faced with the same situation and went for it. They were tied 10-10 with over 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter and would have taken the lead with the field goal, but he chose to go for it and easily got the first down with a nice run by Marion Barber.

    4-1-JAC 24 (3:41) M.Barber right end to JAX 16 for 8 yards (D.Grant).

End result....the team converted the 1st down, but then ended up kicking it on 4th and 18 after a penalty. Field goal was no good, it hit the upright.

We tried to put the game away with a TD drive.

if it works, the coach is a genius. If it doesn't work, the coach is a moron.

If McGahee gets the first down and we end up scoring, we're here celebrating and talking about what a great call it was.

It's always good to try for the win. I admire that in all team sports!

Denver had a 4th and 1 or 2 in the STL game...They made it and ended up scoring a TD on the same drive right before the half.

They didn't win but that call gave them a chance.

When you win as many SBs and games as The Tuna, you've earned the right to take some chances.

I truly think that Coach Marv Levy wouldn't have gone for it.

Make up your mind dude...either Tuna made a bad choice and got away with it, or he did the right thing.

It can't be a good or a bad decision just solely based on who made it.

4th and 1 on the road...you're up by 10 points against a team you simply CAN NOT beat on the road. The answer is simple...

Kick the field goal and go up by 13 points. Momentum is still on your side. You've just driven on them and scored 3.

Not solely but it plays a huge part in it. Great coaches have alot more up their sleeves and can adjust to things that don't pan out. Hence they can take more chances. S***y coaches don't have that luxury.
