On WGR radio this morning, the morning guys did a show about how the Buffalo sports market has been classified as "overextended" for its population and income/demographics according to a business journal.
We came in 8th, behind such places as Phoenix, Pittsburgh, and Denver.
The theme of their show was- which sport in Buffalo would you be willing to see go if needed? The Bills were off the table, of course- the Bills are WNY, and the NFL is everyone's favorite league I'd think.
Out of the other options, it was pretty evenly split between UB sports, Destroyers, and the lacrosse Bandits.
What do y'all think?
I have the least interest in Bisons baseball b/c I'm not a big fan of minor league baseball, but can see the value of having sports events in the summer to attend. UB sports and the Destroyers have the potential, at least of being on a major stage, with network coverage of football and hoops.
That leaves the Bandits- attendance is huge in some areas, but I don't see any advance in getting the NLL on a national TV cable deal, let alone Empire Sports. I'd ship them I think.
