Not since Aug. 12 has Matt Bowen participated as extensively as he did with his teammates on the practice field Wed. Dealing with a painful bone bruise on his lower leg hasn't been easy, but Bowen was glad to put a helmet on again.

Good news...we need the depth at safety.

Whitner should still start.

Of course not! He will see the field. My Redskin buddy said the guy is by no means garbage in the secondary!

I just can't fathom the thought of having to see Wire trying to keep up with Coles on a "GO" route.

Sigh...everyone hates my boy Coy.
Isn't Coles questionable for Sunday?

Bowen will replace Wire as the 3rd safety. He'll be better against the pass and the same against the run. Wire can continue to concentrate on blocking punts.

I expect him to be a starter once he's 100%

Anything that keeps Wire from playing S is a good thing. Leave him on ST.

I wouldn't call it hate- the guy just isn't good at playing S. He's much more suited to special teams.

No way. Not gonna happen. If he'd been healthy to start the season, yes. But not now.

Whitner better still be starting after the way he's played. It would make no sense to switch now.

He was one of the best players at camp and an INT magnet before going down to injury. Ko Simpson had a great game against a horrible QB. We'll see what he can do against a probowler.

I get it. You think he'll start at FS? I don't know about that. He's more of a SS type. And I think the Bills want to get the future started now. Also he's missed a ton of time.

Bowen will back up both safety spots allow coy wire to concentrate solely on ST and Jim Leonard will either be cut, or inactive

Under the cover 2 , aren't those positions switchable? Bowens is young but injury prone. If anything, we'll have a rotational backfield that would be awsome and fresh even in the 4th qtr.

They say that the safeties and OLB's are interchangeable in the cover-2, but I don't exactly buy that. And the point about Bowen being injury prone is a reason why he SHOULDN'T start, i.e. if you give him the starter's reps in practice and he goes down (especially since it sounds like a lingering injury), you have to put in a guy (Simpson or Whitner) who hasn't had the majority of reps.

And I think the Bills still keep Leonhard. He was signed to replace Vincent and Bowen has to show he can stay healthy.
