Sabres Send Sekera To Rochester; Thorburn Waived

Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Sabres have assigned defenseman Andrej Sekera to the Rochester Americans. This leaves 24 players on the Sabres roster, with a deadline of 3 PM tomorrow to finalize it.

Sekera had no points in four preseason games this year. He was drafted by the Sabres in the third round in 2004.

A report out of Canada says the team has also waived forward Chris Thorburn. The Sabres have not officially confirmed this roster move. Thorburn must clear waivers before he can report to Rochester.

Thorburn was picked up by the Penguins, i was a little surprised the didnt send Paille down, he didnt impress much and could have cleared waivers, huh well good luck Chris

They DID send Paille down. Ryan cleared waivers and Novotny would have had to clear waivers.

It's not a big loss...the Sabres are loaded up front with talent. Rather lost him than somebody who could actually put pucks in the net.

The Penguins will pick up almost any team's throw away players.

If they tried to send him down, wouldn't the Sabres be able to take him back and send him down to Rochester? You can't take a guy off waivers and then send him down to your own farm team. I don't know if the Sabres could automatically send him down, but I know he would have to be exposed to waivers again.

If they tried to send him down, wouldn't the Sabres be able to take him back and send him down to Rochester? You can't take a guy off waivers and then send him down to your own farm team. I don't know if the Sabres could automatically send him down, but I know he would have to be exposed to waivers again.

as far as i know he has to be on active roster but could always go down on "assignment"

Only if he plays with Crosby or Malkin. Look at a mediocre player like Colby Armstrong---Crosby makes him 10x better.
