Fox sports power rankings - week 4

    Week 4 NFL power rankings
    Peter Schrager /
    Posted: 2 minutes ago

Eight of the 12 NFL games last Sunday were decided by a touchdown or less, with five of those contests coming down to three or fewer points. Week 5 should be no different, as some of the league’s heavy hitters go head to head over the weekend. Dallas-Philly, Washington-New York, Baltimore-Denver, and Pittsburgh-San Diego are all premier matchups and potential postseason previews. And if you’re a fan of the NFL draft, there’s a game for you too: San Francisco plays Oakland at 4:15.
As for this week’s power rankings, the big movers were the New England Patriots (No. 14 to No. 7), the Chicago Bears (No. 4 to No. 2), and the Washington Redskins (No. 23 to No. 14). The big losers? The Cincinnati Bengals, who laid an absolute egg on Sunday and slipped six spots (No. 2 to No. 8), the Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 7 to No. 15), and the suddenly pedestrian Minnesota Vikings (No. 10 to No. 18). Here are the rest:

Bills21-19/27You may not remember this now, but when Marv Levy, Dick Jauron, and the rest of the Buffalo Bills front office snagged Ohio State safety Donte Whitner with the eighth pick of the NFL Draft in April, there was a lot of second guessing. Mel Kiper’s hair moved, tons of “experts” gave the Bills an “F” on their post-draft report cards, and Buffalo was widely considered the big losers from the two-day event. Four weeks into the 2006 season and Whitner’s a starting safety, making a difference, and on top of the Bills’ list of leading tacklers. Not bad for a guy that forced more than one talking head’s cranium to burst less than six months ago.

Redskins barely win at home are 2-2 and they move up 9 spots and we don't move? Obviously the press thinks we suck, so lets torch the bears and shut their ****ing mouths.

This guy is an idiot. The Vikes didn't lose two in a row at home......

18 Vikings10(-8)10/18The clock ran out on the Vikings, down 17-12 on the Bills 16-yard line. Inexcusable. Two home losses in a row does not bode well for Minny either. And that whole “Chester Taylor will lead the league in rushing” bandwagon that was trucking along so powerfully after Week 2? Yeah, well it’s been derailed after a lifeless 23-yard effort.

Lol, good I. One might think that would give us more cred & move us up if we won on the road against his #10 team, WTF is wrong with him?

I wrote to fox, we'll see if they respond:

This statement: Two home losses in a row does not bode well for Minny either.
Is dead wrong, minny lost in Buffalo and on the Power rankings the Bills didn't move at all in the ranks if he thought they won an away game against his #10 team? Either way did he even watch the game and know where they played?

I don't mind the crappy rankings - it would be gratifying if these guys would acknowledge that they were wrong about this team - but let them keep us under the radar.

Because sooner or later, this team is going to finish the game we didn't in New England and turn some heads against a good team - may not be this week, but when that happens, all of these experts will at some point have to explain why they ignored this team even after the growing evidence to the contrary of their pre-season and early season presumptions.

Kiper was not one of those who blasted the Bills pick of Whitner. In fact, here's exatly what he wrote the day after the drasft concluded:

                  Buffalo Bills: GRADE: C
While it was a reach to take safety Donte Whitner with the eighth pick, he is a great prospect and I like him. Giving up a third-round pick to get DT John McCargo in the first round was a reach. He's a solid player but not an elite one. Cornerback Ashton Youboty lasted longer than I thought but is a very good pick. Safety Ko Simpson and defensive tackle Kyle Williams are solid. Overall, the Bills reached on both of their first-round picks but drafted players who will help the team.

His take sounds reasonable considering what was out there. But Whitner has exceeded all expectations from everyone so far.

They beat the Jags at home by 6 points. We beat the Vikings at home by 5 points. The Jags are a much better team then the Vikings are.

What will we ever do now. We have no chance of winning the national championship with these low rankings. Oh wait, this isn't the BCS. I guess it doesn't matter then.

It's obvious that the guy who ranks these teams is ranking them on his perception of their potential, not their actual performance. There is a big difference. What a tool.
