LMAO I was about to post the same suggestion.

Someone give me direction.

Best way to learn about hockey is to just follow it. Watch the highlights, read the sports sections, and watch / goto games.

Honestly hockey is the sport I really prefer to be at the arena for, buy a game program and enjoy. You'd be up to speed in no time.

Agreed... my wife started really watching with me during the playoffs last year and seemed to pick it up better than other sports. When we went to the game here on Wednesday, she was yelling/clapping/cheering at all the appropriate times very quickly. It's not too hard to pick up, especially live. It's by far the best sport to watch in person in my opinion!

It took me a while to understand the icing and offsides penalties.

I played the demo of NHL2K7 on 360 and I got called for icing like 3 times...

I don't understand anything except shoot puck into goal.

Icing- you need to be across Center ice before you shoot the puck all the way down the ice

Offside- when crossing the other team's blue line, the puck must cross the blue line before both feet of anyone on your team.

Penalties-

You can't hit or hold people without the puck, or defensless players (ones who are facing the boards) and you can't use your stick to clobber people, trip, or use it to hold up other players. Yoyu can't delay the game by grabbing the puck or shooting it intentionally over the glass

Goalies get some protection (like QBs) in their crease.

Thanks, that cleared up a lot of things actually!

Thanks to everyone else for the linkage!

I've been trying to learn more about hockey myself, Darth. I have been watching more games and sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. When I doubt, I call Ticat and ask him to explain it again. lol

My suggestion is to put a hockey know-it-all on speed dial. :phone: lol

You know, out of all the four major sports, the NHL Centre Ice package on Directv is the best value.

The reason? It's relatively inexpensive, and there are hockey games every single night of the week. Also now, I'm getting an HD game every night on Channel 95. (You would also get every Sabre game!)

If you're serious about learning about hockey, it might be something you want to spend a couple bucks on. Some cable systems carry it too.

As much as I love football, hockey remains the sport that takes the most skill to participate in, IMO.
