yeah yeah i dont take much stock in these, but its nice to see #1!!!!

Week 1 of the 2006-07 season also had its share of surprises. The Carolina Hurricanes showed signs of a Cup hangover, going 0-2-1 in their first three games and starting the year ranked No. 27 after finishing fourth last year.

The Buffalo Sabres showed they are going to be a powerful team this coming year, running off three straight wins over Carolina, Montreal and Ottawa to open the season to take the No. 1 ranking............

This year's club is also without a legitimate sniper, but that didn't stop them from winning their first three games, averaging four goals a game in Week 1.

Lindy Ruff won't let them stumble this year. They all know how close they were last year. if not for one or two less injuries, we would have been hosting Carolina in the opener while we watched the banner raise!

This is the year!

This just might be the year of the Buffalo. Making his first appearance since April 18, Martin Biron turned away 34 shots Saturday to help the Sabres knock off the high-octane Senators and get off to a 3-0 start for the first time since the strike-shortened 1994-95 season. Looks like the only thing this team needs is a magic potion that will keep everyone healthy for the duration of the postseason, but there's plenty of time to cook one up before April.

My only question is how the hell is Ottawa still that high after getting thrashed by Toronto and beaten by us as at home as well.

because the first few weeks they go by expectations rather than actual performance.... which is why a preseason tourney in college basketball where say a top 10 team loses 2 games but wins 2 games.... probably wont move around much unless its on a scale of chaminade/virginia

I hate being this high this early. We can only go down. 2 of the 3 wins came on shoot out's. We're not that good yet.

power ranks don't mean squat.when the Stanley Cup is in our hands, then we can gloat that we're #1.until then,we're in the same position with the rest of the NHL.
