The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 14th I believe, thus I propose the following.
Being in the rebuliding stages still, I would trade Clements and Spikes now.

Clements to the Giants. The Giants deperately need d-backs, he goes out of conference, and we all know he isn't going to be back in Buff. So let's get something for him now, preferably draft pick{s}.

Spikes goes to Carolina. I think TKO is starting to wear thin here. Carolina has a need with Morgan injured and he may be done for the year. Again he goes out of conference to a team that is a legit contender. Age/Injury is also a factor with TKO but a team that is close such as the Panthers may go for it. Draft picks again wanted.

Clements and Spikes to Oakland for Moss, Raiders 1st round pick, which could be the first pick overall, and Gallery.

Want no part of Moss. Team wrecker and salary issues. also you would not get their #1.
Better off with d-picks. Team is heading in the right direction and another good draft or two and they should be there.

The question is, what is Spikes worth right now?

Raiders cap cannot handle it AND why would they want Clements when he'll be a UFA

The Giants would be a team that would want clements. They want to win now and probably would be willing to at least discuss a clements trade and then worry about singing him long term after the season if they couldn't get it done now.

CB Nate Clements to NY Giants for DE Justin Tuck and Day 1 2007 pick

Get rid of D players for O players? What happens then?We draft Spikes replacement all over again? Fletcher not getting any younger. We'll have to find his replacement soon. So are we gonna draft D again next year?

I haven't given up on Spikes just yet. We can trade Clements, but I'd keep Spikes.

I agree.....must keep TKO because Fletcher is UFA after 2006

I'm pretty sure they will be drafting at least one lb next year, probably two.
Iwould take any first day pick for clements right now.

Iwould take any first day pick for clements right now. With the way Ellison is playing, we might see Ellison ,Spikes and Crowell in the lb position if we let Fletch go. I don't have a problem with that if Ellison continues to grow. There are more pressing needs than lb.

That doesn't preclude the Bills adding a LB early next year......Patrick Willis from Ole Miss would be a SOLID replacement for Fletcher

I would like to see the Bills trade for an experienced OL/DL.........Raiders could have one or both.

this I agree with. Having a better OL would make things easier for our wr's/qb that we wouldn't even need to think about taking Moss.

A better DL would make things easier for our lb'ers and cb's.

This is why I wasn't all down and out about getting blown out by the bears. If anything they did us a favor by expossing our weaknesses.

I actually really like this post!!! This makes alot of sense. Get something for Clements now vs. nothing next year. But who fills in for Clements this year?

The one that I really like is Spikes. Dallas and Bills both built Dynasty's with the draft and young players.

Believe it or not I'd keep Fletcher.

Fletcher is easily replaced thru the draft he makes all his tackles 5 yards after the line of scrimmage, TKO maybe get a 3-4th rounder for, Clements 1-3 rounder, Tko dont want to play here anymore, u see the guy practice on the news he looks normal, u got a tweek or a tear and u dont do anything on it till it feels completely better, he was doing drills the following week, and all he can say is it is limiting my explosivness, to what cash your check for 7 million

I don't mind the idea trading Clements but I'm not keen on the idea of trading Spikes.

And if we do trade Clements I'd rather it be for experienced depth on the DL. If you are going to get rid of one of your downfield specialist, beef up the front four for added pressure.

I'd send Clements to the Giants for a conditional 2nd round pick...
the condition being if they resign him it becomes a 1st round pick...
No thanks to sPikes trade, and Fletcher is on the wrong side of 30...
We need a quicker middle linebacker...ELLISON is just fine....

if we can trade Clements now I'm all for it. Either an experienced OL/DL or a high draft pick is fine with me. However, I want to see Spikes back on the field. He's the emotional leader of this team and adds a lot more than playmaking skills.

I'm curious what the free agent market for Clements will be like this offseason. whether it's the team around him or not, he sure doesn't seem like he can still lay claim to top-5 corner money.

that said, he's probably not going to get it from us, and thus he's still going to go out and try to get it somewhere. Once a guy gets out on the market, seems like its pretty rare that he ends up with the old team. Maybe he will follow Ryan Denney's example.

We do need to get something for clements, he is useless. If he gets traded for a draft pick, do we get credit on our salary cap pro-rated for the rest of the year? Clump?

To the guy that wants an o-lineman from the Raiders.Have you seen them play.Their o-line is worst than ours and I don't know about you but I have no faith in MacNally to develop anyone. He has done absolutely nothing for us.The o-line hasn't progressed under him.

Agreed on the Raiders' OL being awful. It seems like they do have some talent there (Gallery, etc), just doesn't seem to be getting it done.

but I wouldn't be too harsh on McNally. Look what he's got to work with:

1. Gandy: castoff from the Bears, converted back to tackle after playing gaurd for a while. not awful, but clearly not a franchise tackle.
2. Reyes: let go by Carolina as the weakest member of their line last year
3. Fowler: dumped (traded? I can't remember) by the Browns to Minny. Backup to Matt Birk in Minnesota, played well when Birk got hurt, but not so well that Minny felt compelled to keep him.
4. Villarial. Old, injury prone, and probably overrated to begin with.
5. Peters. A converted TE who was undrafted. probably the only guy on the line with above-average talent, and McNally is developing him into a very good tackle.

It's not like we're giving McNally a lot of high draft picks. Nonetheless, until last week Willis was leading the league in rushing. JP is not getting sacked much. All in all, the line is not giving JP years to find receivers, is not generating a big push in short yardage situations, and is no way a dominant unit. But it could be a lot worse, and I think McNally should be given some credit for getting some production out of a very mediocre assemblage of talent.
