It makes sense to put McCargo on IR. He was only going to be able to play 3 games at most after his foot healed up. I'm a little surprised the Bills didn't think they could do any better than Jefferson to replace him. Jefferson would be able to play Sunday if Buffalo wants him to.

I assume the Bills will fill Jefferson's former slot on the PS, but it won't necessarilly be with another DT.

Have to keep an eye on him this Sunday and see how he plays. Of course, McCargo was only getting 5 or 6 plays per game according to Jauron, so Jefferson probably won't see the field much more than that.

We brought in 5 mystery DT's to try out and the best we could do was activate Jefferson?

Well, the good news is that at least we have 4 DT's to rotate. I suppose if we did sign any of those guys, they'd still be too green with the Bills D to play on Sunday anyway.

"We expect him to dress and play some (Sunday)," said Jauron.

the other good news is that he can't be any worse than Tim Anderson.

I just hope they're not on the field the same time.

Just five days after Bills rookie John McCargohttp://www.buffalobills.com/images/relatedicon.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=4265#) underwent surgery for a broken foot, the team decided to place the defensive tackle on injured reserve effectively ending his season.
"John's surgery went really well, but it's going to take him a while to get back," said head coach Dick Jauronhttp://www.buffalobills.com/images/relatedicon.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=4265#). "He was advancing (with his play) and doing better all the time. But he needs the time and we'll give him the time."
Filling McCargo's spot on the roster was practice squad defensive tackle Jason Jeffersonhttp://www.buffalobills.com/images/relatedicon.gif (http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=4265#).
"It just made a lot of sense," said Jauron. "We liked Jason and know him since he's on our practice squad, but we wanted to look around first."
Buffalo had five free agent defensive tackles work out in the Bills Fieldhouse last Wednesday, but apparently none of them convinced the coaching staff they could do any better than Jefferson.
"A lot of them looked good and did a nice job, but there was nobody that we thought was better than Jason Jefferson," Jauron said. "He knows our system. He's worked awfully hard and deserved the chance to come up."
"It's been a pretty interesting week," said Jefferson who admitted he was on pins and needles all week to see what the decision of the coaching staff would be. "I was waiting wondering what they wanted to do. It was kind of nerve wracking, but I just had to continue to do what I had to do."
Jefferson initially found his way onto the Bills roster last season in a similar fashion. Beset with injuries at defensive tackle in 2005, the club signed Jefferson off of Philadelphia's practice squad on Oct. 12.
"It was a little different then because now I'm here already when the person is hurt," Jefferson said. "So I know if it's going to be me or somebody else. Whereas last year I was on a practice squad and didn't know what was going on up here."
While Jefferson's time on the field last season while on the Bills active roster wasn't extensive, he is likely to see a fair amount of action Sunday due to Buffalo's heavy rotation on the defensive line.
"We expect him to dress and play some (Sunday)," said Jauron.
"There's a lot of playing time that could be involved," Jefferson said. "That's a big opportunity. It's exciting."
Jefferson also benefits by the opponent the Bills are facing this week. Buffalo is going up against Detroit, a team that Jefferson along with everyone else on the Bills roster got an extended look at in the preseason.
"It helps," Jefferson said. "I've been practicing like I'm going to play, but playing them once has given us an idea as to what's going on with them. I feel alright about it."
Jefferson had a feeling his number might be called at the end of the week. He noticed he was getting more reps with the defense than the scout team this week in preparation for the game.
"I've been fortunate," he said. "I've been getting reps as if I'm going to play. Hopefully it'll help."

Why put him on IR if he could have returned in 6 or 7 weeks? He had the same injury last year and missed 5 or six weeks. Unless the injury is worse than were being told again.

rotate like a turnstyle as they watch the running backs run bye them.
