There's always been some truth to the notion that Buffalo sports fans don't get fully involved with the Sabres until the Bills season is over.
But that's certainly not the case this year. I wasn't in town for the early days of the franchise, but I can't recall a time when hockey interest was so great this early in a season. Sabres fever arrived with a sudden urgency this year, like a major snowstorm on the 12th day of October. This could be the year when the old maxim gets turned on its ear, when the Sabres are so compelling they reduce the Bills to an afterthought. Buffalo fans have only so much emotional energy. They're more likely to focus their attention on a Stanley Cup contender than a football team that is striving to become average. ...more (http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20061015/2014270.asp)

I think he may be understating a little bit the passion Buffalo people have for their bills but he's absolutely right about one thing--- I cant remember the last time this city was so pumped for the Sabres this early in the season.. Every Sabres game is THE TICKET in town that night.

Buffalo Bills = 73,000
Buffalo Sabres = 18,000

Yeah, there will be a ton of people talking about the Sabres, but there is more Bills fans that aren't Sabres fans than Sabres fans that aren't Bills fans. I still say that the Bills will still be number 1, except for WGR550...they always will talk about the Sabres first.

I didn't even bother to read the article. NFL football vs. NHL Hockey. The Bills will and always be the first passion of this city. PERIOD. I love the Sabres but considering it's October and the playoffs don't start til April I'm going to stay focused on the Bills.

IMO, the Sabres are the more exciting prospect right now.

What's really hillarious is the 18,000 to 75,000 fan comparison. The Sabres play 42 home games the Bills play 8, and only on Sundays.

Unless the Bills really start becoming a real playoff team/contender, the Sabres are easily going to be the pride of Buffalo in the short term
