Re: Forked: Tonawanda Kardex
Very cool. Tam Rose was also the head coach...
In its second season of operation, the American Professional Football Association added eight teams, including three that would play all their games on the road. One of those three was a team from Tonawanda, New York, which is located between Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
The team is usually called the Kardex, because it was sponsored by a company with that name, but it was also known as the Lumbermen.
Tonawanda opened the season on October 9 with a scoreless tie against a non-league team from Syracuse. The team didn't play again until November 6, losing to the Rochester Jeffersons, 45-0. That was the only league game in the brief history of the franchise.YardRat Wall of Fame

My favorite quote on why the Kardex played only one game

That really surprises me about the logo, whoever created it was ahead of their time - looks very modern.

Re: Forked: Tonawanda Kardex
It was the modernday stripey on an old leather helmet. But it wasn't authentic.
I found it on a football helmet website that had thousands of NFL, CFL, USFL, WFL, AFL, AAFL, NCAA, and XFL helmet designs.
Kardex, like everyone else in the 1920's didn't have a logo. So the artist did a conceptual design- he put today's charging buffalo with a stripe (stripey) on an old leather helmet.
At first, we thought it was authentic until I e-mailed the artist and he set us straight.
