Ok,

He's been a bust so far, but the Pats did trade for him and kept him on the roster for the first 5 games before cutting him to create space for a needed WR. It can be argued he wasn't going to be suited to their 3-4/4-3 defence and that he was always behind Wilfork anyway.

He must have some potential. After all DeWayne Ferguson has been a bit of a bust but considering our DL at present, I for one would take him off the Jets.

At 6ft3 and 313lbs he adds size to the middle of the line. If he does nothing he will be playing at the level of Anderson and Tripplett and anything better is a bonus.

At only 25, his best years could be ahead of him. It may well be his potential could be untapped here.

Do we have anything to lose?

FYI... The Pats didn't just cut him because they needed to sign a WR, they just cut him. They released both him and Hank Poteat when they signed Gaffney, and currently have an open roster spot (they are only carrying 52 players right now). In other words, they decided they would rather carry an empty roster spot than carry Sullivan. He was behind LeKevin Smith and Marquis Hill on the depth chart.

Sullivan wasn't a bad kid, but he just doesn't seem to like football that much. He likes getting paid, but he doesn't really care whether he plays or not. That is the problem, and the reason 2 franchises have given up on him despite his obvious physical talent.

That is a little harsh. It could well be that his coaches did not fancy him.

After all the Pats have been fantastic with players that would never have had a roster spot elsewhere.

And how many times has a good role player taken the free agency gold and turned into an absolute stinker.

I'm saying we find out if he can fit OUR system and OUR coaches on the veteran minimum. If he won't agree to play on those terms we have lost nothing. After all we threw money at Aaron Gibson in the preseason.

Hell, does anybody have Wendell Bryants number? :)

and Sullivan has recorded 102 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 36 games.
Poor figures admitedly.
worse than Anderson and Tripplett though?

You don't get it. Sullivan just doesn't care. He isn't a bad guy, but football is not important to him.

You want a guy who is going to try, whether or not they are the most talented. You don't want a talented guy who is going through the motions.

Which is worse- a talented guy going through the motions or a guy like Tim Anderson, who tries hard but still ends up flat on his ass 5 yards into the defensive backfield on every play?
