    Cowboys cut wide receiver Ismail

The Dallas Cowboys released oft-injured veteran wide receiver Raghib Ismail on Wednesday, one day before the start of free agency.

Ismail, 33, was scheduled to receive a base salary of $4 million in the fifth year of his seven-year contract. By releasing him, the Cowboys will add $1.9 million to their salary cap, giving them a total of almost $10 million.

According to the Cowboys' Web site, the team has not closed the door on signing him to a minimum contract later in the spring.

Rocket? If he is still fast, sign him for the vet minimum to be the long bomb receiver to compliment Moulds and Reed.

Ismail meets with Redskins medical staff

Just two days after his release by the Dallas Cowboys, wide receiver Raghib "Rocket" Ismail could be close to a new job, with the speedy veteran having huddled Thursday with Washington Redskins medical officials.

The 10-year veteran missed the entire 2002 season with a neck injury that was incurred during training camp, and the Redskins want to determine how his rehabilitation has progressed before making a solid contract offer. At the time of the injury, specialists who treated Ismail said that he should be able to return to the field in 2003.

Ismail, 33, was released by the Cowboys in part because of his age and also because of an inflated salary cap number.
