    The Rocky Horror "O"

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-rankings101706&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

    THE MUDDLED MIDDLE

Buffalo Bills (2-4) – Reuniting defensive line coach Bill Kollar and defensive end Anthony Hargrove should help out the pass rush a bit, but the real issues remain at offensive line, which looks like it may need two or three significant changes this offseason.

Hopefully the three prospects Marv signed and kept on roster can contribute next year.

I'm hoping for some significant offseason action on the OL. I'm happy with Peters. my verdict's still out on Fowler and Reyes. But I would love to see a franchise LT and a mean RG in here next season. Draft or FA.
Wake up, brush your teeth, and get ready for a day of hating the Dolphins. Or the Pats? How to choose?

Oh yeah lower round picks thats great. How about ralph and marv cut the **** and get a REAL Left Tackle in here? then go draft a stud RG or flat out just sign one in Free agency?

I think both lines need work and in some cases the DL is worse. The offensive line is fixable and it could be possible with only one pick, a LT. While Fowler will never remind anyone of Kent Hull, he's not allowed a sack, there's only been one fumble attributed to him and he's played against some of the leagues better DTs. On the right side we currently have Villarial and Peters. By merely promoting within we could have Preston or Merz and Butler. If Merz is a player, Preston could give us a bigger centre. On the left we have Reyes and Gandy. Gandy must go, but we could shift Peters to LT. However I am not sure Peters has the nous for LT and would prefer him at LG where he would be more dynamic than Reyes. That leaves us needing only a LT and there are probably 8 in the draft who carry grades of Round 1 or 2. If Barnes picked at 52? can guard Leftwich, a second rounder here can certainly guard JP

The greater concern for me is the DL especially the interior and the NT. If Branch doesn't come out, there is no-one much bigger than what we have at the top of the draft. Also with a lack of depth in this class, teams will over reach for prospects. Unless players are cut, FA is looking no better. We may have to hope we can draft a bigger Kyle Williams at the same stage of the draft and hope he also is a player

And overpay like Vikings did? No way. If the market is good then Bills will get one in FA. otherwise they need to develop players . Developing players is how you get quality players and then use FA to fiill holes.

Maybe if the Bilsl had not wasted so many picks on QBs they would have had 1st round picks to spend on LTs.. I have been happy with their picks this year so far.

Kaczur actually played extremely well as a rookie at LT for the Pats replacing Light who himself was a second rounder. Due to injury he slipped down the depth chart and I believe he is currently behind Ryan O'Callaghan who was drafted after Kyle Williams and only a few picks ahead of Butler. Mark Tauscher lasted to the 226 pick.

I certainly think we don't waste another pick on a OT with marginal footwork for our right hand side especially as Butler deserves a chance. Pennington may only ever be a backup and if I said it once, I have said it 100 times, there is enough depth at OT in the 2007 draft that we could pick a stud LT in the 2nd round who in any other year would go in the 1st. In fact I would take Kaczur over Gandhi any day. Where we will be picking in the second round, we should be able to pick Doug Free or Arron Sears. Even if we leave it until the 3rd we can still have a chance I reckon of Joe Staley or Ryan Harris. All are superior to Gandy. All can be as good as Barnes, Roos, Matt Light of the Pats. Why overpay for a stud LT when we don't need to? And look at the widebodies taken late who have done well at guard. Adam Timmerman, Eric Heitman etc. We'll only know if Merz can reach those auspicious levels if he gets game time. I think a line like this will provide considerable comfort

              LT Doug Free draft R2
              LG Jason Peters
C Melvin Fowler or Duke Preston
RG Tutan Reyes or Aaron Merz
              RT Brad Butler

              BU OT Terrance Pennington

one more addition for depth and that gives us 9 OL
