B’s face sword fight: Sabres have looked extra sharp
WILMINGTON - The Bruins have been at their worst this season when they get pinned in their zone by a tenacious opposition forechecking and cycling the puck. Such situations have occurred with alarming frequency.
Against quick, talented forwards in Florida, Atlanta and New York (and in several instances during Thursday’s 3-2 home victory over Calgary), the B’s found themselves scrambling in their own end for extended periods of time, trying desperately to seize control of the puck and get it across their blue line.
Bad news for the B’s: If they thought the Panthers, Thrashers, Islanders and Flames were tough to contain, here come the Buffalo Sabres.
The Sabres last year beat the Bruins seven times in eight games. And this year, they’re better.
Only a couple of years removed from bankruptcy and rumors of a move to another city, the Sabres are the sensation of the National Hockey League. Going into their game last night vs. the Carolina Hurricanes, the Sabres’ deep, fast attackers had been virtually unstoppable - four very dangerous lines bringing almost nonstop offensive pressure.
