Sabres reduce Bruins to a number

Drury scores twice in eighth win in row

BOSTON - The numbers are borderline preposterous.
But they keep piling up for the Buffalo Sabres.
The NHL's last undefeated team worked over another opponent Saturday night and tied its hottest start in club history with a 6-2 pasting of the Boston Bruins before 14,382 in TD Banknorth Garden.
The Sabres have won eight straight at the start for the first time in 31 years. Any possibility of a Sabres letdown against their first nonplayoff opponent was wiped out by a collection of smoldering scorers.
"It's so fun," Sabres defenseman Teppo Numminen said. "You really enjoy to see good things happening and the puck bouncing for you. When things go well for you, they go well."
Chris Drury, who always seems to shine in the city where he went to college, scored two power-play goals. Thomas Vanek had a goal and two assists. Maxim Afinogenov, the leading candidate to be named NHL Player of the Week, had a goal and an assist. Jason Pominville and Ales Kotalik had Buffalo's other goals, and goalie Martin Biron made 24 saves in his second start. Brian Campbell had three assists. "It's fun when the team is winning," Afinogenov said. "That's what's most important for us. Everyone's just having fun right now."
