I was talking to a non-hockey person and she said something so amazing, I almost fell over. She felt the Sabres 3rd line (max and crew) had such an advantage over the first 2 lines because most teams cannot feature 3 real good full lines. Our opponents either do not have the depth or try to get their "good guys' out there again and again.
Going even further with it, our latter game success really involves our opponents using their first 2 lines up and leaving little in the tank for the 3rd period and OT / SO's. It makes sense that by game end we can pull away and still skate while other teams drag behind and cannot come back after pinching in.
Even if they do manage to use their first 2 lines to combat our 3, the 3rd period shows up and we have plenty of gas left and they are on fumes. We have come back from a goal or two down multiple times this year and everyone was like, wow.
In all reality it's like a boxer letting the other guy swing his way into being tired and then knocking his ass out when it mattered.
