San Diego Chargers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sdg) linebacker Shawne Merriman (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7188) plans to drop his appeal and serve a four-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

<!-- NYT -->If he dropped his appeal, Merriman would miss the Chargers' next four games, against the Cleveland Browns (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cle), Cincinnati Bengals (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cin), Denver Broncos (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=den) and Oakland Raiders (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=oak). He would be eligible return against the Buffalo Bills (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=buf) on Dec. 3.

He should be off the roids by then, and on an all-time downer. He'll be weaker than a 60 year old woman!

Atleast, he wont be jacked up on roids for the game.

This is typical Bills luck.

I've never even heard of a guy dropping an appeal a week before it was to be voted on.

do you honestly think the Bills can stop Gates and LT? The Chargers may have 500 yards of offense against us.

If they have 500 yards of offense I think we can both agree that Merriman is the least of their problems.

What does Merriman have to do with Bills "luck". Besides, Buffalo couldn't beat the Chargers if LT and Merriman didn't play.

The word on the street is that the Chargers quietly told him to drop it due to the FACT that if he would have appealed the ruling he would have missed BOTH Denver Broncos games and NOT just one. Sounds like a plan to me! They feel that they will need him, and I'd agree with that assessment.
