Ok so help me here, Ralph wants higher priced seats but wont' put a winning product on the field to fill those seats?

Also, why 20 MORE million into an old stadium? Why not leave it alone and work to get a NEW one instead?

He didn't ask for the money or a new stadium. he was talking about being a small market team and Pataki offered him 20 mil for improvements. What was he supposed to do, turn it down?

Because getting a new stadiumem, when one is not needed, would not fly in this area.

As for putting a winning product on the field, you might not have noticed but he re-did the entire football operations this year.

Steve Hutchinson? LeCharles Bentley? Kevin Shaffer?

Logic would say that if OL is an issue you should go after OL.

Logic also says there were numerous issues with this team. Hutchinson was not happening, he is over priced and had a tag on him. Bentley was signed about 5 hours into FA, so that is moot.

Maybe Shaffer. But he is hardly a miracle worker.

Yup. It would have been nice to have Hutchinson on the line, but with our many needs, spending 7M a year on a guard would have been dumb. likewise, LeCharles would have been really expensive too, and he made it clear he wanted to play near home in Cleveland.

I think every improvement to the stadium helps - the fans, as well as the efforts to keep the team here. The new premium seats will have a great location and should be very marketable, and the new Jumbotron may bring in some fans who actually care about such things.

Is there still only going to be one jumbotron? I hate that. If you're sitting under it, you can't see anything. Also, can the people in Buffalo afford these club level seats? I thought that Buffalo had a very depressed economy and I can't see people forking out a lot of money for high priced seats. But that's just me.

I didn't read all the posts here so sorry if it was suggested already! Here is what I think we need:

We need a statue of a Buffalo on top of the JumboTron. It should be rigged so that when we are on defense the eyes glow red and smoke comes out the nostrils! We could also have the red and smoke when we score a touchdown as well! I think this would be awesome!

I dunno, perhaps its just me... but I'd very much like to get the best of both worlds (watching the game on TV and sitting in the stadium). Without a Jumbotron and a sound system that you can actually hear... that won't happen!

I hate coming home from a game and people saying... "Did you see that play? The replay showed he stepped out of bounds!" And I have to say.. no.. I didn't see it. I paid money to see the game, but because our jumbotron sucks, I couldnt see crap!

Also, there is a reason that a lot of Bills fans listen to the game via radio DURING the game... its because to expect to hear whats going on from the in stadium announcer in buffalo is nearly impossible.

I can hear Gurtler loud and clear from where I sit, and what is really wrong with the current Jumbotron? How can you not see it? I am on the other end of the entire field and I can see it just fine. I am not complaining about a new one but I wouldn't care either way. How is a new soundsystem going to make the experience more fun? I don't think the talk of a new stadium is silly...if the government was serious about helping Erie County and also keeping the Bills they would definately come to the table with plans for a new stadium in downtown buffalo. I think a new jumbotron is nice and all...but it's also a play to back the organization and our municipalities into a corner in the future.

First of all, they are going to say "you can't leave we just gave you all this money for upgrades" and second of all they are going to say "sorry we can't help with a new stadium we just gave you all this money for upgrades".

It would be more than nice to have the stadium downtown. It could host at least 20 major events througout the year and house many other smaller ones. It could be built like a mall and integrated with HSBC, basspro and the casino complex. With these things, buffalo would have a better chance of landing bigger convention events and it would help more communications businesses locate here because it would be attractive to host events for those companies. This is a communications mecca here in buffalo and we have done absolutely NOTHING with it.

I know they are trying and I applaud the efforts. You can't really deny the impact of getting the stadium out of orchard park and putting it in downtown buffalo.

The other thing they should think about doing, is putting a smaller jumbotron above the tunnel end zone.

Yeah...maybe we could've...but then we would've had to sacrifice signing other players. Look at Indy...they paid gobs of money to Manning and Harrison...and couldn't afford to keep Edge...because of the salary cap. It's not a question of Ralph being willing to spend the money (and he's not the GM making free agent signings anyway so why his name comes up is beyond me), but it's a question of whether you sign 1 player or 3 (for example)

I couldn't agree more, you have 5 or so miles where the Buffalo Steel Plant is that needs a major cleanup, and this is definitely one of the areas where Buffalo needs to begin and is way past due.

All of the steel that Buffalo produced during WWII, we should be able to rely on the federal government to help fund some of the cleanup/resurection. Too bad the federal defiicit is few trillion too many.

A downtown stadium is not realistic financially or politically.

Financially a new stadium will result in higher prices and the Bills fill stadium now by a combination of low prices, visiting fans and sponsors.

This is NOT to say that there are not die hards who would not continue to buy season tickets but there are far too many where this would be the last straw in affording to keep season tickets.

The cost of the stadium needs to be absorbed by users of the stadium eventually and that is not happening as long as the economy continues to be in the dump.

Putting it in Buffalo will only make it worse - Buffalo is extremely poorly managed and they will be trying to milk the cow so hard they will rip off the teats.

Politically there is no way politicians will press for money for a stadium in Buffalo. Yes they may be willing to pay for upgrades and improvements but that is far from willing to make the long term investment in Western New York needed. They have not even finished Route 219 connection to Southern Expressway and that is being mostly paid for by federal government! And this is the entity who will need to pay for most of the road improvements needed for a new stadium.

And how will the downtown affect tailgating? Many people appear to go to the game more for the tailgating than the game itself; when the team is in a slump as it has been for last 6+ years that is partly why stadium remains full!

Add how it would impact tailgating to equation; many people seem to think that tailgating will be as good in a downtown stadium as in Orchard Park. Long traditions will be broken, parking restrictions will be tighter and many people accustomed to leaving space next to cars will discover that parking will be dictated to you and that smaller space will cost you more!

Speculation is fine but realistically it as likely as JP making it to Pro Bowl this year.
