Buffalo Bills (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/buf/) safety Donte Whitner (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7757/) faces a harassment charge after an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend.
Whitner was arrested in the Buffalo suburb of Hamburg last Saturday after police were called to his home in response to a fight with a woman, police said. He was arraigned on the violation and released on his own recognizance.

Oh no, he broke our perfect record this year. I'm Donte be arch, taste my fury.

What is it with these guys and their girlfriends, you know. They can like go out and get 10 girls but they keep one at home and then beat them up once in a while.

He has a plane to catch this weekend, he better be on it.

I can understand the domestic disputes. Men really get the wrong end of the stick nowadays.

This really isn't a big deal at all. Clayton made a good point, in domestic disputes in which there is alleged physical abuse, somebody is going to get arrested. It's usually the man who gets arrested. This isn't even a misdemeanor, just a violation. He could get arrested for 15 days, or fined $250. But the charges will most likely: a.) Be dropped. b.) Settled outside of court.

LOL, First thing I thought of when I saw this was Cecil Collins getting busted for B&E "watching a girl sleep, while hiding in her closet"

Then I read BuffaloFever's post and I agree, women get the benefit of the doubt in situations like this and they dont neccesarily always deserve it.

I wouldn't hold it against the guy without more information than has been given that's for sure.

McMike hit his PREGNANT wife.

So if Whitner's girlfriend is pregnant, they're equal? Aren't we also a country of legalized abortion?

I don't know... all I know is that football players are increasingly becoming scum bags. For years the one shinning light of the Bills organization I saw was the clean record. If Whitner is doing bad things to this girl, it's time for you guys to chastise him like you did McMIke. I'll be the first to admit McMike is a scum bag, are you ready to admit one of your own might be?

Last I checked, the accused is innocent until proven guilty....or shouldn't we at least hear exactly what he was accused of before we convict him?
Harassment is a pretty broad term...so is fighting...it could've been a war of words and she felt she could win the argument they were having simply by having him arrested. It's too easy to assume the worst when it comes to pro athletes

For those few of you who are all over Whitner, I hope you never make a single mistake in your entire life.

I believe everyone is entitled to a mistake or two. As long as the person learns from them, and generally conducts his or her life in a responsible manner, the rest of us have no right to sit in judgment.

It is far too early to draw any conclusions on Whitner's character.

And yes, while we don't know all of the details.. I think its funny how hypocritical a lot of you guys are! If this were a Dolphins player... you'd call him a dirtbag and say "Glad we didn't draft him!" :shakeno:

And Jan... I call Bull**** on your post. A mistake is turning left when you meant to turn right. It isn't using your fist to teach your ***** a lesson. Its sad how far our country's moral character has gone where we consider physical abuse to be a "mistake". Eventually we'll consider murder "a mistake"

Good post.

If it was as innocent as a yelling match that was loud enough that the neighbors had to call the cops, then get the guy some counselling so it doesn't escalate in the future.

I am surprised by some posts in this thread though.

who said it was even a mistake? I didn't see DW saying it was a mistake. The ***** was probably beating the crap out of him with her fists and he pushed her to get her to stop...and now she's got a lawyer and going to sue because she pressed charges. That's how a great deal of these 'disputes' happen when one of the parties has a big wallet. He did make a mistake. He was with the wrong girl. That's a mistake you get to make when your young.

Great, Marv picked the next Eric Moulds.

No.

What people are saying is not to judge him before when know what happened.

Look at it this way: You say we can't judge JP w/o ample evidence. You also can't judge Whitner w/o ample edivence.

Give him time. Hes still a rookie at harrassment. Hes going to be a good one! Again, he only has had 1 charge of harrassment. You cant judge his abilities after 1 charge. Maybe he might turn into a wife beater after 20 charges. Only then can you say, yes maybe we should question him. I'd give him 32 charges before we say ya, maybe he is crap.

He is our future! Im willing to stick with him when he finally graduates to wife beating. I dont see how people can expect him to be a great harrasser if he doesnt get the opportunity. We need to make time for him and get him another girlfriend to harrass to fine tune his skill.

If he beat his girlfriend there would likely be an assault charge.

First degree Harassment occurs where an individual engages in conduct, either physical or verbal, which gives the victim a reasonable fear of physical injury. Second degree harassment occurs where an individual engages in conduct with the intent to "harass, annoy or alarm another person" including physical acts or threats.

Bottom line is we don't know exactly what he did, as harassment covers a broad range of conduct, none of which includes actually causing physical injury to another person. I.e. what he's charged with is something less than beating his girlfriend.

That's not to say Donte wasn't a bad boy on the night in question, but we need to tone down our evaluations of his moral character until we get the facts and find out exactly what his lady is alleging he did. and if there's any truth to back it up.

I'm certainly not a law expert, but every time I see someone arrested for harrassment in the papers, it's a verbal fight... If it was physical, there would be a more serious charge (assult, spousal abuse, etc.).

Could be he's just young and chose the wrong woman (or tried to ditch the wrong woman...), or maybe he will turn out to be a loser. Let's wait until we find out what really happened before we get too judgemental...

Smacking a GF around isn't the same as trying to develop as a football player. So again we are going to wait and see because he is a Bill.

I am sure with the Bills laywers he could flat have just beat the **** outta her with no provocation at all and they will spin it how the bills fans want to hear it.

Let me guess 'She asked for it' right?

At the very least a fine for Donte, and a suspension may be necessary, I dont want to jump to conclusions but Id rather him not play with a dirtied record. Sit him till the off the field issues are resolved.

They call them OFF THE FIELD INCIDENTS for a reason.

No big deal huh? when it happens to members of other teams everyone here comes crashing down. it happened to the tight end of the dolphins and everyone here has something to say...where are all the big mouths on this one? must be that yellow streak down their backs

How is it going Mouldsie?

I think the big difference is that we know McMicheal beat the crap out of his pregnant wife (actually he beat her twice).

We really don't know the facts in this story yet.

Exactly! It's probably just that he was swearing at her and calling her a whore or something. I don't think he hit her, but if he did, then he should get fined or something.

I dont care what anybody thinks about Randy McMike. The difference between Whitner's situation and McMichael's situation is simple, nobody knows what happened with Whitner and his woman. With McMichael, people actually saw him beating on his wife. HUGE DIFFERENCE. I know fin fans are playing the victim card here, but I will reserve judgement on Whitner until I know the whole story. This story has been passed on by so many people already, the original stories meaning has probably been lost. Instead of reading other peoples post, how about you check out the link on page 1 and draw your own conclusions, instead of following someone elses.

There is no way it would be a hundred G. From what the reports have been saying, this is only his GF, not his wife. You wont get that much money out of something as small as this. But you are right, physical abuse could be something stupid like grabbing someones arm or nudging her.

oh if it was a wife he'd be playing to pay her for the rest of his life. You don't know how much it could be and it goes more into emotional damage than physical.

I agree.. Get a load of this.. I have a friend who recently got devorced, and his wife did something similar. He has to pay her $80,000.00 a year, for the next 10 years. That's over half of his salary too, ridiculous.

1... showing us where anyone is actually defending him
2...showing us where he actually hit her or anything

punitive damages are always relevant to how deep the pockets are. they are meant to curb behavior not as compensation. That's why an award for something stupid like this can be 100 grand.

I think many of you also need to consider the possibility that the woman could also be abusive. Woman can be just a violent as men, maybe not do as much physical damage, but many women hit men and it can get worse over time. If a man was raised never to hit a woman and the woman in question continues to hit the man knowing he won't hit back, there will come a time when it can take it's toll and the man hits back after having taken enough of the abuse.

Many of you are jumping on this as if the man is the only one who should be locked up, but what if the woman is the abuser??? Men aren't going to run to the police out of fear of embarresment or shame. Therefore it festers to the point of an explosion. Many of you claim not to know all the facts and are willing to wait till you know everything before you pass judgment, well you should consider everything that could be a factor in this situation.

I for one think any man who strikes a woman is a coward, however men have every bit as much right to defend themselves as woman. If a woman is smart enough to be given the benefit of the doubt for being the better parent in most custody cases in the US, then they are smart enough to understand you don't pick a fight with someone that outweighs you 2-1. My point is, I feel for those that can't defend themselves, but I don't if your the one bringing the violence on yourself.
